Amy,
I am so proud of you. Last time I saw you, you were a young woman who was wondering what she wanted to be when she grew up. A nurse? A social worker? A pizza maker? Now after reading the journal I see you grew up to be a very strong, confident and loving mother who is doing a fine job taking care of her family. You and your family are in my prayers. I am so thankful Spencer is doing well. Take care and congratulations on your newest addition! Love you, Michelle

hi spencer,
my name is john atkins and i'm 57 years old - old enough to be your grandfather. i had my right eye removed when i was in my early twentys and got an artificial one. so far, for me, it's really not been too bad. i think most people don't notice and, although there've been a few things i can't do - or don't want to, i do alot of things i want to. i think you'll be able to do most of what you want to, also. the eye you're getting is the latest thing and will probably look great. good luck and feel free to contact me.

Dear Syvertson's
I was just down to Sue's the other day and heard how things were going. I can relate in life being a roller-coaster - which I am sure you feel you are on. I believe that is the right decision - get that tumor out of there. We will be praying for a safe surgery and for strength. Those kids are tougher than us mom's and dad's! Dear Syvertson's,
You are always in our thoughts and prayers. We pray for wisdom for the Drs. Sue said you were heading out to PA again. It is so nice you can update everybody on this web site. It is also nice that treatment can be done at the U. - you have family around! Isn't it hard way out there alone? We had Gwen alone in Nevada for awhile and we missed family so much. I'm sure you are anxious for these results (the waiting is the hardest) We will keep you in our prayers - God is the Great Physician and we trust Him.

To Mark and Amy,
"I asked the Lord for a bunch of fresh flowers but instead he gave me an ugly cactus with many thorns. I asked the Lord for some beautiful butterflies but instead he gave me many ugly and dreadful worms. I was threatened. I was disappointed. I mourned. But after many days, suddenly, I saw the cactus bloom with many beautiful flowers and those worms became beautiful butterflies flying in the wind. God's way is the best way."
I just thank God that He is in control and that we are all learning even more through Spencer's experience, to turn to Him in all of our needs. He is our healer, protector, and comforter. He will fill you with the strength and peace that will get you through difficult days. Our prayers are always with you. Love, Karen and Jeff Mogard

Dear Spencer and family -
Just wanted to let you know you are in our thoughts and prayers here in Kerkhoven - where your aunt Susie is my hairdresser and Uncle Kevin rents our farm. We feel for you all as we have been there - having Gwen having Leukemia and in and out of clinics and hospitals. Sue and I were talking today as we pray for wisdom for the doctors. God will give you added strength for each day - He did for us! And then when our son was diagnosed with Melanoma a year ago - we thought "What else do we have to go through Lord?" Spencer - your picture is on our refrigerator as I bought lots of good smelling candles from Aunt Susie. When I use them or give them away I will say a prayer for you. I'm glad Sue gave me the web site - We will keep posted on your situation.

Greetings:
Your story sounds so similar to mine. My daughter also was diagnosed as having a tumor during a routine eye exam. She was 13 at the time, hers was diagnosed as retinoblastoma and treated with radiation, chemo and surgery. She is now 18, cancer free and graduating from high school this coming Friday. Kids are resilient and strong. I wish you and your loved ones the best of luck. My daughter was treated at Rochester, Mayo Clinic by Dr. Robertson in the ophalmalogy department.

Hi,My name is Jeff and my family and I are friends of your Uncle Pete's. I was in the Marines with him and I have visited Mankato a few times to visit him and have met your family a few times. I'm sure I met your mom and maybe even you at some time. Pete has tried to keep us informed of your progress and we have all been thinking of you and praying for you to get better. We have a little boy who is 9 1/2 months old named Cody and we are looking forward to coming up to visit again as soon as we can and hopefully we can get together again. We wish you all the best and will continue to think about you and pray for you to get better again. God Bless.

Spencer,
It was fun having you in class at night when you came with your parents. You did very well and I think you are really going to enjoy it when you go to Kindergarten! I used to have problems where I had to go to the doctor a lot, but after a long time, the doctors helped to make me well and God always took care of me, just like He takes care of you every day. I hope your summer is fun and that you get to be outside enjoying the warm weather and outdoor play!

Spencer, I think of you often. I hope your eye gets better soon. I have a daughter who only sees out of one eye and is doing great without the other one. Hers is a lazy eye and doesn't work. She had cosmetic surgury when she was in the first grade. She is now almost 31 and works for Wells Fargo Bank in Minneapolis. Having only one usable eye hasn't kept her from doing what she wants. I hope you eye heals and you can have two good eyes.

Our love and prayers to you, Dad and Mom.
