CARTER COMPLETED TREATMENT MARCH 6TH 2003
Journal
Sunday, March 30, 2003 9:12 PM CST We all continue to celebrate Carter end of treatment. We returned from Orlando last Monday after an absolutely incredible week. The Make-a-Wish Organization granted Carter's wish to make a trip to Disney World. We had such a great time! We were picked up in a big white limo on Tuesday March 18 at 6:15 in the morning. We were met at the Orlando Airport with a big sign saying welcome Carter and escorted to our free rental car. We then drove to Give Kids the World Village a resort for children at Disney for their wish. The village was so awesome! They have an ice cream palace donated by Friendly's that serves ice cream from 7:30 am to 9:00 pm, and yes we let the children eat ice cream at 9:00 am one morning. They have a gingerbread palace donated and supplied by Perkin's restaurant. Both are operated 100% by volunteers. There is a game house donated by FAO Schwartz, a movie theater provided by Sylvester Stallone, a wooden carousel, a put-put golf course and a castle. When we arrived the children were greeted with gifts of stuffed animals and t-shirts. We were escorted to our villa, a two bedroom, two bathroom cottage with a living room and kitchen and a jacuzzi bathtub in the children's bathroom. The village has a paid staff of 25 and serves 7000 families a year, they have a volunteer staff of 300 each week! The generosity of time these people shared with us just blew us away! Disney was wonderful! Carter had a special badge that gave us head of line privileges for rides and character greetings! We rode the Buzz Lightyear ride 3 times in a row and then went back to ride it again just before we left. During the parades every character waved to him or shook his hand, and the princesses blew him kisses. When we met Snow White, she gave Carter a huge red lipstick kiss on the cheek! Just wait until you see the picture of that! We spent one day at Sea World and Carter was chosen to be in the Dolphin show. He did such a good job and the smile on his face was just priceless! Although going to Disney seemed to be a bit of a cliché, being able to skip all the lines made it an experience we will never forget. It was great to spend a week in Fantasyland for a while. We were met at National Airport Monday evening by another limo to bring us home and some friends came by to welcome us back. Mary Chris & Jim
