HELP ST. JUDE BY CREATING A PEPPER AT CHILI'S TO FIGHT CHILDHOOD CANCER!!!!

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Chili’s Grill & Bar® announced the kick-off of their fifth annual Create-A-Pepper to Fight Childhood Cancer campaign. Now through September 30, Chili’s restaurants around the country and, for the first time, in Puerto Rico, are marking National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by inviting people to get creative and raise funds to help St. Jude find cures and save children with cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.
Guests at participating Chili’s restaurants can contribute to St. Jude in multiple ways:

- Make a donation to St. Jude and receive a Create-A-Pepper chili pepper coloring sheet designed for display at restaurants during the month.

- Purchase Create-A-Pepper T-shirts that can be customized with permanent marker.

- Buy a customized Create-A-Pepper key that can be cut for use at home or the office.

- Eat at Chili’s on Monday, Sept. 29, when Chili’s will donate 100 percent of profits from participating restaurant sales to St. Jude.

Visit www.createapepper.com and to make an online donation.

I hope things are continuing to go well for your family. A few weeks ago I was thinking that 3 years ago you were diagnosed just a few days before my son, Wesley was. Soon we will join the "off chemo" club with you. We are getting very excited, nervous, happy, scared etc....(I'm sure you know the feeling)
We would like to have been done with chemo months ago like you, but different parts of the country have some big differences in protocols---we pray they all work well and both boys have a life long remission!!

Hey Carter, Disney World is a great place. We were there last year about this time. You and your family deserve a week in fantasyland. I met you during our training rides with TNT. I am doing the Century Ride in Tahoe. I now have to jugle my rides on Saturday with coaching Brandon's t-ball team. I hear you are playing as well, and your not going to believe it but Brandon's team is called the Cubs too. Enjoy this great weather, and continue to ride that bike and look forward to seeing you at one of our training rides soon.

I found your website through another Caring Bridge website. Ironically, it seems that we may be neighbors! I too live in NOVA. I saw all your references to Burke Lake, Fairfax Hospital, the DC sniper, the SNOW we got this winter, and other DC-area references. I'm glad to know that Carter has received treatment at Fairfax Hospital, since they have such an outstanding Children's Hospital there.
I'm glad to hear that Carter is doing so well! I will continue to visit your site on a regular basis to check to see how he is doing!

Dear Jim and Carter
We are so glad to finally get a status update on your condition, and even more happy to hear that things are going well. As you can imagine, we were concerned when the journal was not updated in such a long time.

We want you to know that you are still included in our daily prayers, and we wish you continued improvment and long term health.

Our grandson, Wesley Peterson is doing very well. He too is in his third and last year of treatment. There have been some ups and downs, but overall things are going well.

Best wishes and continued good health

Carter, glad to hear your summer was busy and fun. Most important of all your counts are back to normal. We know how scary those drops can be especially when you have been doing so well for so long. Wes, like you has just finished his first two years of treatment. Our protocol is a bit longer though, we still have 14 months left to go. You are lucky to be done so quickly. I hope you keep those counts up and continue to be such a busy and healthy boy.

Carter and family,
The one year mark shows your family (as well as ours) that, with all of our friends and family helping us through this journey we will make it, changed for sure, but much more aware of the blessings in our lives. We wish you a new year of continued good blood counts and few side affects! Take care of Carter and remember that you are not alone in this fight.

Dear Beardsleys - It seems hard to belive that it has been a year. Your entries thankfully show steady progress forward, albeit with an occasional step to the side or back or in an unexpected new direction, which is to be expected. One thing stands out -Your family is overdue for a completely smooth airline experience - the travel god owes you one. Peggy and I have all of you but especially Carter in our thoughts.

Hi Carter
Our prayers and the prayers of your many friends seem to be helping you feel better, and we are all happy for that.
Your illness and the other little kids with Leukemia have taught all of us "old people" to get our priorities straight. You and the many children like you are an inspiration to all of us.

We look forward to following your continued progress and we will keep you and all of your family in our prayers.

Jim, you are doing a great job of painting the picture for all of us, and for leading the effort to help the Leukemia Foundation.

Mary Chris-
I signed on tonight to do a quick check of my e-mail and noted a message from your mom....which led me here to Carter's web site. I am sitting here after reading the journal entries and I am stunned. I am ashamed that I had no idea what your family has been going through. I think about you often and wonder where you all are...I though Jim had left the Navy and that you all had moved. I can't believe you are still here and that I haven't talked to you in so long. Add to this being oblivious to Carter's health and well, I am at a loss. This website is amazing....the time you all spend to keep us up to date is just wonderful - thank you. Thank you for being an inspiration to all parents. Thank you for sharing your story with me. Thank you for reminding me what gifts our children are. Please add me to the many friends who will be praying for your family. God Bless Carter!

Although your family has been constantly in my prayers, I am so ashamed to say that I have not taken the time recently to visit Carter's website and read the journal entries. What a wonderful labor of love the journal is and what a blessing it will be to Carter someday. I am overwhelmed by the way in which your family is handling this incredible challenge in your lives and somehow managing to maintain some degree of normalcy. You are to be greatly commended. We have anew grandson, Cort Bennett Hollis, born to Chip and Jana on May 31. Beck still talks about visiting Makenzie, so now that the weather is warmer, we will have to plan a visit. Thanks for sharing your journey with those of us who care. Love, Dianne

Hi Carter
I really enjoy checking out your WebPage often and reading about your progress. Your daddy does a great job keeping everyone up-to-date.
Diane and I are now in our second month of training for the marathon. Your Grandpop has made copies of your picture for me and Ceci is sending me pictures of Shannon. The lady at the Leukemia Society here will use the pictures to make badges for Diane and me. You and Shannor are our Honored Teammates - our inspiration - an important part of our training. We will wear these badges on Saturday mornings when we do our Team-In-Training team walks and also on the day we walk the San Diego Rock-N-Roll Marathon. The big day is June 3. There is no turning back now, my friends responds has really been fantastic, I am going to go the distance.
We are all excitied about your upcoming visit and are looking forward to seeing you. I can't wait to see how much you have grown since we saw you last summer. I will also make sure your Grandpop gets lots of practice reading out loud so he will be ready for your marathon reading sessions. You don't need to bring any books we can all go to the library and check out a humungous stack. Tell MacKenzie and Ronan I love them and give them a big kiss for me. I love you. Cookie

I was just asking Joan (Sienkiewicz) for an update on Carter yesterday. I know it's a long road, but it sounds like all of you, Carter included, are doing the best one can hope for. I think of all of you often.

Perhaps it may seem odd, but as I go through the routine testing for recurrence, I think of Carter. He's become my hero. When I look at that wonderful smiling face in the pictures, I am inspired and reminded of how sweet life really is.

As always, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Fondly,

I hope you feel good soon.

Dear Carter
We are so happy to hear that you are doing well with your treatments. We want you to know that we keep you and our grandson, Wesley, in our prayers EVERY DAY. Your courage and the courage of all the young people with your illness is a example for all of us "old folks". The Lord gives us many blessings, and you are one of those blessings.
Best wishes for continued progress in your treatment.

Dear Beardsleys,
Ginny sent me to Carter's site - what a moving, informative way to share your family's experience. I'm sure it is reaching others in the same situation with support and strength and enlightening those of us who can only empathise but not fully identify. Thoughts and prayers. Hope all continues to go well.

Hi you guys! This is Emerson Nagel (aka Emmie Howell!) from Chicago. I just wanted you to know how sad we were to hear the news about Carter. Nat had a small operation when he was nine months to take off something that turned out to be just a little skin tag of some kind. It was awful for us - so in our own way, we can imagine, by multiplying by some huge number, what you must be feeling. We'll keep all of our fingers and toes crossed for you - that represents 80 crosses, altogether...!

I saw your picture on my computer today, you and your whole family were sitting at the beach on a boat. What fun! Did you go sailing with your Dad? Well I've got to go now, your grandmom probabily has a job for me. Let me know if you like what's in the package. Pop-pop

To the Beardsleys- my thoughts and prayers have been with you since we found out on Sunday about Carter. My sister-in-law is a pediatrician and tried to explain to your mother what was going to happen. She said that ALL has a high success rate. I'm glad that you have many friends in the area, you will need them in the coming days. I'm glad that Carter is doing well after his first chemo treatments. God bless!!
