It will be 20 years tomorrow since Butch left us.
Sheri is looking through a lot of memorabilia I have given her about his life...including a lock of his hair I had saved since 1943, when he was 14 months old!
Oh how I'd give anything to have him still with us.
His big sister,
Pat

It's been nineteen years since Butch has been gone. The little ceramic "Butch angel" reminds me of him EVERY DAY.
I didn't get an entry in here last January, as I was doing packing for the big move from Minnesota to California.

Thinking of my kid brother, as his youngest daughter Megan had to cancel her August wedding plans because of our current pandemic.
After moving to California this year, I brought the ceramic "angel" that represents Butch with me. I see it every day. He is NEVER far from my thoughts.

I did talk to Sheri on his day, June 16th, and said that her Dad would have been the most handsome senior citizen! If only he could still be with us.

A 76th birthday for Butch today... I wish he was still here to celebrate!!
Today my granddaughter Erinn ran a marathon in Duluth,MN.
I told her how her Uncle Butch ran along side his daughter Sheri for a bit, to encourage her.... in her first marathon.
And, he was recovering from hernia surgery which he'd had a week or so before!! As old Aunt Pat recalls, Sheri exclaimed as he joined her, "Dad, what are you doing?!!"
This week his two daughters are together, since Megan and her friend Andrew are visiting all the Benshians in California.
I imagine they are toasting their Dad tonight!!

Sixteen years and a day since Butch left us.
My heart still hurts over his having died so young.
Sheri is getting over a terrible bout with the flu....and a bad sinus infection. Sara has recovered from her flu bug. I was VERY CONCERNED about the two to them.
Sheri and David indeed remembered her Dad extra often yesterday.

Today would have been Butch's 75th birthday.
I would give anything to have him back the 15 years that he has been gone, for us to continue to be in touch...AND FOR HIM TO KNOW AND ENJOY HIS GRANDCHILDREN, Benjamin, Sophia and
Sara J..
Sara has Floyd J. Hauke's middle initial in her name!!!!!!!!

Bill reminded me of the meaning of this date: Fifteen years ago, Butch left us.

Sheri and Megan surely had it on their minds today though.

June 16, 2009.....Butch would have been 67 today. All of us still find it HARD to think of him no longer being with us. It has been 7 1/2 years. I'll NEVER forget how proud I was to show off my baby brother, making sure everyone saw his tiny feet. ( I was 7 1/2 at the time.)

I worked with Butch many years ago at Great Lakes Bancorp in Ann Arbor. I left Michigan in 1992 and moved to Scottsdale. Several years later I got a call from Butch letting me know he had relocated to Arizona. We chatted and said we should get some golf in one of these days. Unfortunately, we never got together after that call.

A few years ago I saw Butch’s name in my address book and decided I should give him a call to catch up. Wanting to check if the number was current I did an Internet search on his name. I was stunned when I came upon this site and realized Butch was gone. I was deeply touched by the courage and love of your family as Butch battled this disease I knew so little about.

I still think of Butch often. I can’t really explain why. We were coworkers but never really had a close friendship. Maybe it’s because of his graciousness or your remembrance of him. Maybe it’s because he left us on my birthday. Somehow the memory of this man stays with me.

In January my mother called from Michigan. My father has GBM, stage IV, brain cancer. Thank you sharing your stories. They will give me strength to help my dad as he struggles against this disease I am now familiar with but we still know so little about.

SEVEN YEARS!
And soon there will be a THIRD grandchild for Butch. How he would have loved to experience grand-parenting!
Last night I was thinking about how granddaughter Erinn would ask me after Butch's funeral, "Grandma, are you still thinking about Uncle Butch?" The answer was always affirmative. And, I would offer the same answer today! Pat

The fiancee of one of my great nieces is struggling for his life following an accident. They have set up a website very similar to Caring Bridge and it spurred me to return to Butch's website. So much has happened since his passing- many blessings, some sorrows. The thing that hasn't changed is that we all still miss him so. I keep in touch with Pat and Linda via e-mail (everyone knows Pat types like she talks) and we see Bill and Peg whenever we can. I want to extend Sue's, Sarah's, and my love to the entire Hauke clan and wish everyone health and happiness.

We ALL still miss him SO MUCH.

Hi!

Happened upon your website when I was looking for a list of the doctors in Dr. Forseth's practice. Just lost my aunt to lung cancer in January '07. I read the journal about your dad from beginning to end--what an incredible family you are, and how very lucky your dad was to have all of you.

It was a pleasure helping my aunt. My husband and children were wonderfully supportive of the time I spent with my aunt for the 6 weeks she was at St. Joe's and of the time I spent (commuting to Sun City West, from North Central Phoenix) taking her to doctors appointments downtown, or
helping her at home. She was no longer able to drive. How I yearned for the kind of family involvement you all described. I still yearn for it, as I am now the successor trustee and responsible for settling her estate--for 11 beneficiaries, who live all over the country.

You have touched my life with the loving care you provided your father, and I thank you for sharing your story. You must be so proud of your dad--from your journal entries, I can tell he was an amazing man.

I was just thinking about it being nearly FIVE years since Butch died. And then it dawned on me..FIVE YEARS AGO TOMORROW! Today I had lunch with grandson Andrew and he wondered if my high school ever won a State Tournament. Of course I told him about "Uncle Butch's 1960 basketball team" accomplishing that. He smiled when I told him about the team being honored and how they rode through Bangor on a fire engine, when they returned home.
We ALL wish Butch was still with us to enjoy his grandson BENJAMIN JACOB, and to cheer Megan on as she begins her college experience at WMU!!

I look at "Butch's site" from time to time, still. Intended to add a few words on Monday....the fourth anniversary of his death....which is so hard to believe.
Grand-daughter Erinn asked, en route back to Minnesota after the funeral,"Grandma, are you still thinking about Uncle Butch?" Yes Erinn........and even four years later I STILL think of my little brother VERY often.
Sheri, I am so glad to see your update of the journal on here!
Love to you Sheri, and David, and "Butch's grandson to be"!

Next week four of the five "Hauke kids" and families will be gathering at youngest brother Bill's house for our "every two year" reunion which was decided upon after Dad died in 1996. Whoever would have thought that back then....that when it was Butch's turn to get us all together (in 2002), we would be going to his funeral in Michigan, instead of having a reunion of all of us in Arizona.
We still miss our "middle brother" more than words can describe.

Yesterday (June 16th) would have been Butch's 61st birthday. I was on the train, en route from Washington,DC to home, here in MN, and thought of him more than ever, all day long.
I have fond memories of the surprise 50th birthday party for him in Brighton eleven years ago-----and never in a million years would have guessed he wouldn't be here for his 60th, last year.
Love to you, Patti, Sheri and Megan..when you see this.

I too, still check Butch's web page every now and then. Most often it is because soemthing has happened and I think to myself that "I've got to tell Butch about that!" Especially a local sport's event or some other Kalamazoo news. I still can't believe that he is gone from this earth and I go to the web page to make sure that it is all not just a bad dream.

I STILL look at this site from time to time, thinking maybe someone has added a note.
Yesterday (December 1st)would have been Butch and Patti's
18th wedding anniversary.
I would like to add the phrase on a stepping stone I saw in a catalog:

To Heaven And Bring
You Home Again.

I still miss my "baby brother" Butch!!!

Dear Sheri
I had heard from your Aunt Pat that you had updated the web page, but frankly, although I knew based on your previous writings that it would be uplifting and inspirational, I just wasn't ready to read it. I now have and again thank you for such a wonderful tribute to your Dad.

I also really appreciated the picture that you encluded in the photo album that was taken when he was about 9 or 10. It brought tears to my eyes but also a rush of fond memories of the time that my sister Charlene and I would visit the farm in Bangor as well as your your Grandma and Grandpa. Also your great-great Grandma and Grandpa Jewell.
Your Grandma Hauke was one of the most wonderfully caring people I ever met, and a heck of a cook. I was sandwhiched, age wise, between your Uncle Jim and your Dad so I got to play with both of them. We sure had a lot of fun. I remeber that picture as though it was yesterday. In fact I probably have a copy somewhere. Your Dad was really a specical person, but ofcourse you know that! Thanks for your courage and wonderful ability to put your thoughts and emotions into words.

I pray that for you and your mom the pain will fade quickly leaving only the wonderful memories.

I am glad to have gotten to say hello in Kalamazoo. Sure wish it could have been under different circumstances.

Please view this note as being to both you and your Mom.

Dear Sheri ~
Talked you your Uncle Bill yesterday and he said you would know who I am so decided to drop you a note. John Biermacher gave me your website address 6 months ago and I have been following along.
Let me say I am so sorry for your loss - the relationship you had with your Dad was very special and I know this is a difficult time for you. I trust your good memories will be of some comfort to you now and forever.
Of course it has been years (we won't say how many) since I have seen you or Butch. I do remember him and his sense of humor - and you as always such a little lady!! I can tell by your pictures you are still a beautiful lady. And by the way you have written your journal - at least as beautiful on the inside....
I told Bill yesterday I thought you should win a Nobel Prize for the awesome job your did with that. Such a gift to so many, Thank You, Sheri.

Dear Sheri, Patti, and Megan, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I did not get to know Butch very well, but I know he was an exceptional man because of the legacy he left behind (all of you!). There are no better people than the Hauke family. My favorite story about Butch was when he ran the last few miles of a marathon with Sheri--he saw her struggling a bit and joined her without running clothes, shoes, or training to run miles in a marathon. I am sure he must have been in pain but his love for his family seemed to be the overwhelming factor in his life--he chose to help his daugher over his own comfort. What a guy. I will miss him. Now he is your angel and will be with you always. Love, Lisa cain

Dear Sheri, Patty and Megan, Please know that your father and husband, Butch, was a WONDERFUL man!! I so enjoyed working with him and chatting when he came in the office. Our cubicles were situated on a common corner-which made it easy to visit. He always had a warm smile on his face and radiated kindness. From the first day he joined IKON, he was always a pleasure to work with. A highlight remembrance for me is that we worked on the first Bonus Bucks event together. It was just great to have him on the team. I have never worked with a group that had so much fun and yet accomplished so much at the same time. It's a memory I will always cherish. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you and your extended families. Butch fought a brave and courageous fight-and he is now completely whole, sitting with the Father in Heaven. Our prayers for healing were answered-even though it wasn't the answer we were seeking. May the comforting and strong arms of our Loving God wrap each of you in a blanket of peace. Butch was and always will be a special person to me and so many others. His life is a testament to a wonderful man who treated others with genuine respect and courtesy. Knowing him was a privilege I will forever be grateful for.

My heartfelt condonlences are offered to the family and friends of Butch. It is with great sorrow that I received this news. We all know that Butch is now in a much better place, but it is always so difficult for those who survive him. God will keep Butch and his family close as all reflect on the special times shared together. All praise to our God the Father. He is loving and good. Bless the family and friends as they gather to rejoice as Butch enters the House of Our Lord. God Bless and keep you all safe.

Sheri,
My thoughts and prayers are with you today as I too mourn the passing of your dad. I will have a tough time not thinking about him all day today because of how close to home this hits for me. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to spend some time with Butch, however brief it may have been. He was a terrific man with a zest for life. I always take solice in the fact that those who are close to us are always watching over us. I know that your dad is extremely proud of both you and Megan and will enjoy watching your growth over the years from a much better place than we are in. I'm confident that he'll find a new friend in my father as well. They're probably on the back nine already up there on the finest course in the world. You have been so courageous throughout his battle and my deepest sympathies are with you and your family.

Dear Butch and Family,

I am the Site Admin for GTECH - AZ and worked with Butch for a couple years at GTECH while he managed the "Software Gang". I want to thank our old mutual co-worker, Jim Burlant, for passing on this website. Your Thanksgiving entry was beautiful and sent out a very clear message. Not only should we all be thankful for the things we have, but also the incredible power of love and support team Butch has on his side.

P.S. Butch, your old admin, Lisa Van was recently married. She married a great guy named David and is doing very well. I also married a GREAT guy named David - so when the four of us get together it is Lisa & David and Lisa & David! haha

My thoughts and prayers are with you all,

Haven’t written in a while but wanted to let you know you are in our thoughts and prayers. We enjoy checking out the guestbook and seeing all the names, not just the familar ones. Your courage and determination really helps put “Thanksgiving” in perspective. We have been dealing with a variety of everyday issues, which are insignificant in the scheme of things. We just truly hope that you begin to recover some strength and endurance. Enjoy the Arizona weather and think good thoughts as Kalamazoo has clouded over, with no real clearing likely until January or February. Love and prayers, the Biermachers

Oddly, he has been in my thoughts for some time now. Only yesterday did I find out what he has been going through. To say that he and his entire family is in my prayers would be an understatement. I'll continue to check back to this site frequently. God bless you Butch. You are truly one of the best people on this planet.

Butch's Minnesota sister here, letting everyone know how much I too enjoy all the messages.
I had told Butch today how I get questions about him even from my tennis coaches!
And tonight, an old tennis friend asked how he's doing and added, "You know, Bobbie and Erlinda are now praying for him too." They would be Sister Roberta and Sister Erlinda, missionaries in Guatemala! (I met my friend's sister Bobbie {Roberta} when she was home on furlough and do correspond with her from time to time, as does our sister Linda.)
While remembering Butch in your thoughts and prayers, please include Diane Cunningham in them as well, especially these next few days. She's the young Iowa mother, a brain tumor survivor, who is undergoing more chemo at Mayo (Rochester, MN)at the present time. I "met" her via the internet and she sent us the book "That's Unacceptable", which is about Butch's type of tumor.

Hello Butch and Family! This website is wonderful! We all think of you so often but it isn't easy or convenient to keep in touch. You are so right that we all have sooooo much to be thankful for - that God is caring for you Butch, and helping your wonderful family care for you as well. You are in my prayers daily and hope that my prayers for strength and improvement will be answered if it be God's will. I spent Thanksgiving in Mexico with a friend who works down there. Had a very un-traditional dinner - ham and cheese sandwich! It sounded better to me than a fish taco! Enjoyed it though, and the weather and relaxation were wonderful. Came back with a bit of a tan to see me through till summer. Will be thinking of you with the Christmas holiday season and wishing you all the happiness of the season.

Hi Butch,
You were in my thoughts on this beautiful Friday afternoon, so I decided to check up on you only to see that other NAPMers, Carol and Cheryl, had been thinking about you too! Glad to hear you are responding well to recent treatments. You're one tough dude! Wasn't the World Series just great fun (a nail-biter at times)? My husband and I have been big D-Back fans since their first game in '98 so were more than excited about this series. We go home at night and expect to see Game 8! You keep on keepin' on. Butch your courage and determination in the face of adversity is truly commendable. My father Jack Nelson is the youngest of 11 children and he has always been known as " Butch ". We had the distinct pleasure of getting to know your wonderful daughter Sheri over the weekend under the most trying of times. Butch you are truly blessed. We will continue to pray to God for your complete recovery and thank and praise Him for His answers to all the prayers so far. This message was meant for delivery for 10-24-01 but I messed that one up and now it is blank. Sheri thank you for ministering to your Grandpa Hoogenboom last week it meant a lot to all of us. To Butch and the rest of the Hauke Family~ My Dad (John Biermacher) has always said that God only gives you what you can handle. I remember the first time he said it was when someone asked how I could be such a good person and Dad replied with "I believe that God only gives you what you can handle and he must not trust me very much." Of course that conversation was before I hit the teenager years so I think that God has more trust in my dad now. :)
Anyways, my point is that God must have more confindence/trust in you than you or anyone else ever knew and given you a VERY strong family to help you along the way. You will be in my prayers this week.
Keep Smiling that Hauke Smile, it's a good one! God Bless!

Our prayers are always with you Butch, Sheri and Megan. We are all together in this. Love always, Darregan,
It's been six months since I sent an entry to this very valuable website. (THANK YOU, THANK YOU Sheri, for setting it up. Countless numbers of my friends here in Minnesota and in other parts of the country have kept up to date via it.)
It has been wonderful to read the comments of so many people in the lives of my AZ Hauke family, and know how you've touched them in the past, Butch, and to learn that they too are saying many prayers and offering support.
I'm thinking of the four of you so much today, with the newest treatment facing you tomorrow, Butch. Many days you are all CONSTANTLY on my mind, in my heart, and a part of continuous prayers. Today is no exception.
I'm so grateful for the times Rick and I had together with the four of you last month, and the chance to see firsthand the courage you possess at this time, Butch.
I pray for more strength than ever to be granted to you this next week.
"Expect a miracle" was written on some note paper I had a few years back. That's exactly what I'm hoping for at this moment.
Love to the four of you!

Hi Butch! So glad you are a candidate for this new experimental treatment! Science makes in-roads daily and this may be just the "fix" for those stubborn tumors. My family and I are continually praying for you. I have shared your journey with them because they care about others-especially those dear to me. (More people praying the better, right?) You are a brave man, Butch, and an example to all of us of what true courage is. Your daughter, Sheri, is such a strong young woman. She is always a tower of strength when I see and talk with her. As a parent, you have every right to be proud. Always know that you are being remembered and thought about. God bless you and may He enable you to be still throughout the coming procedure. Simply checking in to say hi and that we are happy the surgery went well; the post-surgery recovery is moving faster than expected; and the treatemnt is starting sooner than expected. I (John) looked at Peregrine's website and it was/is amazing to see the description of their clinical protocols. It is almost a given that cellular therapy will be the next major breakthrough for modern medicine. We'll keep hoping and praying that this regimen is sucessful and Butch will be part of the scientific breakthrough.
The website is wonderful. We'll keep in touch and will try to think of a way to help manage the isolation aspect.

We are truly saddened at the recent report following your Dr. visit. Obviously we were hoping for better news, but it sounds as if you are confronting this setback in the best manner possible-- straightforward as a family unit with the love, support, and prayers of so many people behind you. We admire all of you and your courage. Update from Bill indicated that you will have another surgery and hopefully become part of an experimental protocol. We believe that it will work because we all such happy lives and it is only right that they continue. Happiness isn’t a finite quantity- it is something we create with the zest for life you have always shown. Sue had a cousin who had several reoccurrences of breast cancer. At one point, it looked as if all avenues of treatment were blocked. She received some experimental (stem cells) therapy and made a remarkable recovery. Even though the cancer ultimately overcame her, the treatment gave her an additional 12-16 months. It wasn’t just a case of her living longer. She made miraculous recovery and was returned to an extremely high quality of life. She was able to travel and enjoy the same things she always did. Please stay strong and our prayers will continue for a successful surgery.

Uncle Butch,
Just in at work to get caught up on some things and read Sheri's update. Of course, Mom has been keeping my posted on your progress too. Just wanted you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers constantly. One of our sermons at church recently was about healing and prayer. Our pastor took us through several steps and the key was to VISUALIZE the cause of the sickness and pray for healing. I have been visualizing that darn tumor of yours fading away. You keep fighting! I hope it helps you to know that others are thinking of you. I will be thinking of you especially during your next surgery and was happy to hear that Mom and Rick are going to be able to make it down there. Take care...love you lots!! All my best to Patti, Sheri, and Megan too. Love,Debbie

He went to the Dr. yesterday to get his cathater out. Has to have prostrate surgery in 4-5 weeks. A two day stay in the hospital. He is a bit weak but glad to be back to more normal. My mother is now living with us. We have had some major changes in the last few months (weeks). Life has a way of changing every day. We have to be glad to see another day that the Lord has given each of us. We continue to pray for you Butch and your beautiful daughter. Patty and Megan too. Good Morning, Butch! I was just reading today's thought in a little devotional book my daughter gave me to keep on my desk. As I was skimming through it I found one that made me think of you and your daughter, Sheri..."Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair but manifestatiions of strength and resolution." You and your daughter embrace others with such kindness and grace. It is truly a refection of your inner strength and personal determination. We are blessed by who you are and how comfortably you share with us your present journey. May today be a better day than yesterday and tomorrow even better than today. Keep on believing. Hi - I got your website from Marg's site. My mother was also featured on their website (Pat Anderson). Mom was diagnosised on 1/11/01. She just finished taking her 2nd round of Temadore. Now we wait 23 days before starting an IV chemo. Anyway it is good to have another site to follow. This BT world is much smaller thru the internet. Mom's site looks almost identical to yours. We will add you to our prayer list. God Bless......Wanda

Hi Butch
Just wanted to let you know that you're in our prayers. We hope that you enjoy the audio book that we have sent. Gary & I find that in our busy schedule of our old lives (Gary's old life, not mine!) Reading books on tape is a lot quicker and more interesting. Our love and prayers to all of you.

Just wanted to check in, say hi, and express hope that you are feeling well. We have had some cooler and wet (very much needed) weather. The last two days have been just about perfect. Saw Bill and Peg last night. Bill and I hoisted one (just one) after we both mowed. His lawn looks about ten times better than mine but he works at it about 50 times harder- so I still win. I had a birthday earlier this month - just one of many, but I did received a really nice email from Pat. Hi to everyone and you continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.

Hi Butch! I hope this message finds you in good spirits and feeling better and stronger. I was off last week-my sister came to visit for the week and we had a most wonderful, relaxing time. It was just great to do whatever we wanted without being on a time schedule. We had so much fun painting pottery one evening with my daughter and two friends. Our "works of art" turned out pretty good! I am so glad you had a wonderful vacation in Michigan with your family and friends. Just what the doctor ordered and more, I'm sure. I was just thinking of our team working on the Bonus Bucks event last year, Butch. We worked so well together and had fun doing it-even though it was a ton of work! I hope you'll be able to join in the fun when we have our next one sometime in October. My prayers continue for your healing, Butch. Keep up your great spirit and smile. We all miss you and look forward to seeing you very soon. Love to you and your family. Rudina

Dear Butch

I have been pretty negligent lately, haven't been "on line" for about three weeks. It is great to hear that you are hanging in there so well. Glad you were able to get back to Bangor. I haven't been there for years. Saw Aunt Bernice a couple of weeks ago. She seems great and always up beat. Want you to know that just because you don't hear from me very often, you need to know that you are in my prayers every night. Keep fighting the good fight, you can beat this thing!

Much Love

Your Cousin

It was great seeing Butch, Patti, and Megan (Jan and Kendal) on their recent trip to MI. Sorry that we did get to see Sheri, but sounded like her schedule was packed. During our two visits with Butch, there was very little (no) discussion on health issues because they seemed irrelevant- Butch was Butch. He was strong and energetic and we simply caught up on the day-to-day with a bunch of reminiscing and yucking it up.
Chance we'll see you in October. John and Sue

Hi Butch! How are you doing my friend? I think of you often and am praying for your renewed strength and healing. I was off work for nine days after my knee surgery. I came back July 23rd and am hobbling around a little better each day. Sandy Tek came in the office this afternoon to show off her new baby boy, Canyon Mason. He is such a doll at 2 months old!! I really hope you have a wonderful trip to Michigan. Take lots of pictures so we can see where you've been. I've never been to Michigan-but I understand it's very pretty this time of year. My sister is coming out for a week's visit August 11th. I am looking forward to it very much. Isn't family wonderful! I will check with Sheri to reschedule our lunch visit. It will be so good to see you again and just chat. God bless you and your family, Butch. You have such a beautiful built-in cheering section!! Your IKON family sends their heartfelt best wishes and prayers. Talk to you soon! Love, Rudina

Hi Butch! We are all so happy to read and hear about the wonderful care you are receiving. What a team your doctors and family make! Our prayers and thoughts are with you always! We will install our new "leading edge" equipment this Wednesday, and we are all so excited. They will be installed as regular copiers first, and then we'll network them within the next 3-4 weeks. Pretty fancy stuff, huh? We are all busy as usual. Did you know we are changing our name? To Institute for Supply Management ISM. That's going to be a big job given that everything we print has to be changed, the building signage, products, etc. Hey - we can handle it! Take care and know my thoughts are with you.

Butch,
Bill, Peg, Sue, and I sat on the front stoop tonight.- some things never change. I admitted that I hadn't returned to this website since your early diagnosis. So I decided to revisit the site. Truly amazing. Sheri's updates are very informative. We have been relying on Bill for updates. Well - he is a really nice guy, we love him dearly but I don’t think a second career at news reporting is in his future. Sheri might want to consider it.

I wish your MIR report was better but hopefully the new medication will be effective. I type so slowly, I will save our discussion on the MIR experience until your visit in August. But did want to share with you something else that came up during our porch conversation.

The bar in the hotel in Wayland has been redone and it is called “Regret’s Only”. It has paper placemats. They have a heading “My Biggest Regret” with space below to fill in. Patrons/wait staffs then post the more interesting ones in common areas around the establishment. Well, to make short story longer I was in there and read a placement that was thumb tacked above the urinal and I’ll try to repeat it as best I can.

“It was my senior year at Wayland High. I was the starting pitcher, and pretty damn good. One particular game against Bangor I was faced by a batter- everyone on the bench was calling him Butch- but several voices from the stands called him Floyd. When I first assessed him I thought I would bait with some sucker pitches. He let the first two pass- 2 and 0. The next was high and inside but the umpire gave me a break and called it a strike-- 2 and 1. I followed with a fast ball that he fouled off - 2 and 2. I somehow sensed that I was extremely lucky he hadn’t fully connected. Now I was scared -I didn't dare go outside with this guy. I tried to catch the inside corner- maybe I did, maybe I didn’t- but Butch (Floyd) stood tall, didn’t swing, and the umpire agreed with his judgment-- 3 and 2. It was then that I knew I was up against an uncompromising foe. I wanted to smoke him but there was just something about his stance that said- “don’t try it.” So I went high and inside, Butch (Floyd?) stood like a statue and it was ball four for a walk. To this day, I can’t t remember what the outcome of the inning was- but Wayland won 6 to 5. Yet I am still haunted by this Butch (Floyd?). I wish I had put one straight down the middle, as hard and as fast I could throw, but I didn’t- I was intimidated by the presence of this boy from Bangor. Even after my years in the big leagues with Detroit and California, I replay this experience in my mind. I have even considered going to Bangor to see if I could find this Butch (Floyd?) And see if he remembers that day and what he was thinking. Therefore I would have to say my biggest regret in baseball was backing down to Butch, Floyd, whatever-the-hell his name is.
Phil Regan

Hope you enjoyed the story and look forward to seeing you in August. Best wishes, love, and prayers- the Biermachers.

Good morning. I find this a useful way to check out what's happing in your life. I think of you often. I haven't had lunch with Cornie for several weeks. I wonder if he still has a job.

It appears from the comments that you are progressing and have family who are working hard at finding sources familar with your situation.

I also get the impression that the drug therapy regime hasn't been too debilitating.

The photos make you appear healthy and surrounded by a strong support group.

You should know that memory loss in simple terms comes with age.

We have visited Prescott in the past; a great place and I'm sure cooler at this time of year.

Have a great day.

Hello Butch!

I can't tell you how much I miss seeing you. I just transferred from Mesa Community College to Scottsdale Community College, and was so pleased to know that you work with SCC as well. Before I left Mesa, I went by the Copy Center many times and asked Kirk and Todd how you were doing. Everyone has such wonderful things to say about you and they care so much about you (certainly that is no surprise). Then, when I got to Scottsdale, I went to their Copy Center and met Jack; he was extremely nice. And you know what, he also spoke very highly of you. It just goes to show that really special people stand out, and you are one of those few really special people!

I wish you all the best, and I will keep you in my thoughts, as so many others are also doing.

Have a fabulous 4th of July with your family.

Warmest Regards,

hi butch, sounds like california was lots of fun. I
wouldn't worry too much about the mri scans. I had a doctor
tell my wife that she had a blood clot in her lung and the next day after someone else looked at the findings tell her that there was nothing there. Turns out it was pnuemonia, but it wasn't confirmed by the doctors on any of their scans. needless to say I am very sceptable of these doctors being able to read the scan results. Well our thoughts and prayers are with you and yours. have a beer (juice)for me and can't wait to see you back at work. take it easy.

Hi Butch, It's me again, Rosalie. Don't know if my last quip got in but my computer just cut out. Your family sounds wonderful and good friends too. Signs of a good man. Tom is playing golf Sunday in the Bangor Open. He enjoys the friendship of my brother and Bill and Peg and golf seems to help them keep together. Funny but I don't remember there ever being a golf course in Breedsville. When I tell people I'm from Breedsville they mostly comment they never heard of a normal person from that little place, oh well, you can't argue opinions. You look great. It's nice to see people I went to school with still so handsome. The class of '61 has their reunion this summer at Red McFadden's. I'm sure that your name will come up and it will be nice to share the courage and love your family reflects in these notes. Also read about the headlines about winning the '60 State Championship and your picture being on the front page, I still have one of those in a scrapbook. Just think we're historic. Keep on with the good work. Rosalie

Hi Butch - Scott here. I've had you on my mind and visited your web page today to get the latest scoop. What a great family and support you have! I keep you in my prayers and appreciate the chance to keep up on your whole adventure. (Is that a fair word?) Anyway, I think you know me well enough to know what I mean. Take care of yourself and keep away from the germs at the moment.

Hi Butch! I just finished reading your medical update and am always encouraged by the great sense of fun, courage and adventure you and Sheri put into everything. What a wonderful, positive family you are. I am blessed by what I read and know others feel the same. It's interesting that you are juicing because I've recently come to understand how really healthy and beneficial it is. I haven't tried the wheatgrass yet, but love the fruit conbinations and the apple and carrot drink. I hope you like your new IKON denim shirt. They are a little warm for now-but will be great during the fall. My thoughts and prayers continue for your complete healing, Butch. You've made tremendous progress and your IKON family is pulling for you. Keep your smile and wonderful sense of humor. Take care!!

Dear relatives and friends of Butch:

I would like everyone to know that next week (May 6-12) is Brain Tumor Awareness Week. Many activities will take place in Washington, D.C. and around the country. I learned of it when I attended the Upper Midwest Brain Tumor Symposium here in MN in March, and from information shared by my new-found Iowa friend (from a Brain Tumor List on the internet) Diane Cunningham, a young mother, and a brain tumor survivor.

Check out http://btaw2001.dnsq.org !!!

Since we can't be in Washington for the candlelight vigil next week, please join brain activists there, and across the U.S., Monday night, May 7th (between 8:30 and 10:00 P.M., EDT) by lighting a candle in HONOR of OUR HERO, BUTCH, who is bravely fighting the battle....and also one for my friend Diane!

I cannot adequately describe the courage that Butch exhibits, along with the other "survivors" and their families that I met at his radiation treatment visits the two weeks I visited the AZ Haukes last month! Also, you need to know that Butch can "feel" the support of all of you, and the power of the prayers offered in his behalf!

Keep on with the good fight, Butch, and with your steady and loving support Patti, Sheri and Megan!!

Love, and continuing prayers from this part of the country,
Pat / Aunt Pat

Sheri:

We are reading your page every week now since we found it. It is so wonderful that you are there to be with your dad. We are praying for his complete healing of this dreadful disease. So glad your Aunt and Uncle were there. Yes, the brothers really do look a lot alike. I watched some older video we took when your grandpa Hauke passed away and you were here. I think I made a copy and sent it to you too of you and Grandpa H. golfing. 1996 I think.

Greet your dad for us please- he may even be reading this, if so, Butch we are praying for you and John prays faithfully every day. I'm not as good as that, but he does!!!

Our weather is getting very nice now. Grandpa talks about golfing, but his legs aren't too good. He could go a few rounds maybe. Dad talks about you a lot Butch and I know he prays for you too.

We will keep reading these letters Sheri-great way to keep everyone informed.

We love you. Oh, Shannon and Trish got married on Ap. 20. They went up North to do so. Going to a reception this Sat. for them. They are registered at Target. Told your mom.

Love you.

Hi Butch!
I check this web site so often to see how you're doing, this is such a great thing that Sheri has put together for you. It's awesome to see all the support you're receiving from everyone, and you continue to be in mine and my husbands prayers! My last day at IKON is this Friday, May 4, but I wanted to let you know that it was great to work with you. I enjoyed talking with you when you would come into the office from the sites. I only know you and Sheri a very little bit, but you both are just so warm and caring, its no wonder so many people love you and your family! Take Care Butch, and God Bless you and your family!

Hello old friend. I happen to see John Kloosterman last evening. We talked at length about your recent surgery. I then talked with Cornie this AM. My prayers and fond wishes are with you and your family. I have been through your situation with several friends over the past 5 years; including a liver transplant for my son on Dec 19th. All is well here.

Please let me know when you can be contacted by phone. It has been too many years since last talked. Cornie has keep me somewhat informed about the old GLCC gang over the years. We do lunch occasionally.

I am in the process of winding down my workdays...anticipating retirement.

You have a very strong support group - (as I've read many of the emails sent to you) - that will help to make sure you win this battle. You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers everyday and I want you to believe that this is just one more obstacle in your life that you will have to overcome.
**Sheri,
You are a blessing from God, as I'm sure your dad would agree. We all could only be so lucky to have someone like you by our side at a time like this. You are doing a great job and it is all rewarded with the positive progress your dad is making. As you already know, I'm here when you need me.

Love to you both - Kelli

Butch:

Judging from your family's journal entries it sounds like you are making a remarkable recovery. I wouldn't expect anything less from such a remarkable man.

Your friends at NAPM miss your friendly smiles and warm hellos. Please hurry back.

Best Wishes...

Butch,
This website is/will be a great way to keep in touch. It is good to hear that things are going well and we continue to hope and pray for you. I (John) will have to find a more private e-mail address to send jokes and comments that probably aren't appropriate for public disclosure-- if you know what I mean!!! Lot of people here in Michigan are pulling for you and your full recovery.
Love,
John and Sue

Butch, I want to wish you all the best with this new challenge in your life. My brother recently went through chem because of lymphoma. He is doing quite well now and is in remission for about 1 1/2 years. He went through extensive treatment for about a year but was fortunate to have a wonderful oncologist who really knew his stuff. We'll all be thinking of you and looking forward to when you can come back to work. I hope everything goes well. Take care.

This is a great Web site. You girls appear to know what you are doing. Doesn't surprise me that Butch's family would be like that! Just want Butch to know that he is in my thoughts and prayers. Thank God for the medical marvels of our day. We have so much that was not available just a few years ago, much to be thankful for. Doesn't sound like a bit of fun but hang tough, Butch -- this too will pass.
Your family and friends are counting on you.

Geez Butch, if you didn't want to come back and have to play me in a round of golf or two, you could have just said so. No need to go through all of this just to get out of it. haha But really, Bill has kept me up to date on you fairly well and I hope that everything continues to improve for you. Keep your spirits up. Hi Butch!
Sure miss seeing your smiling face around the office. So very thankful you came through the surgery well and are doing good in your recovery. Please know that many thoughts and prayers are being sent your way. I know you still have the treatments to get through, but you'll be out on the golf course before too long. Take care and be a good patient.

Hi Butch, Sheri, Patti and Megan,

You have all been in my thoughts daily and I wait for updates from Linda. This is a wonderful idea to keep everyone
informed. Please know I am here for you if ever I can do anything for the family. Sheri, you probably don't remember your Aunt Sandy. I am in Mesa and will do whatever I can. We are currently in the process of moving
but I will keep you informed of where I am. We are building a new home and have to move from our current home
until our new one is finished (sometime in July). Our phone number at the moment is 480-962-5977. We are
moving into a rental home on April 9th and will not have e-mail for awhile, but I plan to keep everyone posted. Glad
to hear you are doing well Butch and Patti please call if I can do anything for you.

Lots of Love and Prayers to you all.
Sandy
