About 1 hour after this photo was taken in 1997, we received the most horrible news: Arielle's bruises were caused by Leukemia. Amazingly, about 10 hours after frolicking at the beach in this photo, Arielle was admitted to the hospital and was subjected to lumbar punctures, bone marrow aspirates, insertion of a central line, and the start of what would turn out to be years and years of chemotherapy. I think I'm still in shock over this...
