Luke Do Our beloved son, Luke, was diagnosed with Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia or JMML, a rare and aggressive childhood leukemia,in September 2001 at l8 months of age. JMML has had a poor prognosis but Luke is now enrolled in a study protocol which will hopefully increase his chance for survival. He has completed 3 courses of chemotherapy and splenectomy. Luke was admitted 3/11/02 for "conditioning" and underwent an unrelated bone marrow transplant on 3/18/02. Please keep him in your prayers.

Thursday, February 21, 2008 11:59 PM CST In my last journal entry, I had mentioned quarterly updates... By quarterly, I must have meant every Four years... I can't believe that it has been four years already. Both Luke and Hope has grown so much. Reading my last entry and comparing them with now, I am at a lost for words... The last four years has been mostly very good to Luke and our family. I'll try to recap the significant highlights:
Luke is now cured of his Leukemia since he has passed the 5 years mark after bone marrow transplant. We are approaching the 6th year after BMT this March. About a year and a half ago, he need surgery to remove a benign bone tumor from his left wrist. He has small cataracts in both eyes and is now wearing glasses. He is now potty trained. He is still very particular with food. His favorite is still chicken nuggets with rice and soy-sauce... He is not taking any medication except for a daily vitamins, benefiber, and miralax.
He is now in the second grade, still 50pecial ed. He will return to mainstream education by the end of this school year. We supplement his education with a private tutor and Kumon. Academically, he is about average for his age. Socially, he is a little behind his peers. He is participating in soccer, gymnastic, and cub scouts.
Hope is now in the 1st grade and is quite intelligent and competitive with Luke. She is socially very well adjusted. She also participate in soccer and gymnastic with Luke.
Sarah and I are both doing well. Work is always busy. We both feel so blessed... Our son survived Leukemia and a difficult bone marrow transplant. We were lucky to have a donor... We made another trip to Seattle a little more than a year ago. We stayed with Randy and his family. We had a chance to visited with former governor Gary Locke... We are currently working with vice and mayor of the City of San Jose to see if we can duplicate ordinance and legislation protecting donors of stem cells and body organs similar to what Randy and Mr. Locke did for Seattle and Washington state...
I'll update photos soon... No promises on when the next update will be...
