Welcome to Dani's Diary. It has been provided to keep people updated about Danielle's battle against leukemia.

Dani was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) October 2, 2001. She was 13 at the time, which put her into the high-risk category, along with the fact that it took 28 days for her to enter remission. Factors in her favor are being a girl, low white blood cell count at diagnosis, no central nervous system involvement and a favorable genetics translocation (don't ask me...).

She will be on intense chemotherapy until about October 2002, then will be on maintenance therapy for 2 years. She had cranial radiation in December 2001.

The clinical trial that Dani is on has a 5 year success rate (at which time they are considered "cured") of 65% to 85%. This is good, but it's not good enough. We encourage you to support cancer research charities so that no child will ever lose their battle against cancer.

Okay guys, I know it has been way too long, but Mom and I are extremely busy anymore.

I am most likely going to miss something, if not multiple things...

Franklin county's Fair was that next week and of course it was blazing hot out. But nonetheless it was fun.

I moved into Buena Vista on August 26 and started on the 28. I get along great with my roommate. I have a job at the information desk, I am in Social Work Club, Swope Hall Council, Fellowship of Christian Beavers, and Student Activities Board. I have made a lot of new friends.

My first weekend I wanted to go home to get some more things. I got about an half an hour from Hampton and my car broke down. Grandpa Vic came to my rescue and I have the Maxima til further notice.

Mom is a big hit cause she's sent me cookies, cinnamon rolls and cheesecake brownies, all the girls on my floor love to come and snack. I average about a letter or two from Grandma Ginny each week.

A group of 50 students or so went to Chicago as an alternative to going out and drinking. I got to go and it was quite the experience, we helped out at a place for kids to go after school, to stay away from gangs, then we went shopping ate at the Hard Rock Cafe where they made 2 of oudr chaperones get up on the bar and dance to "YMCA." It was very interesting, then we went to Navy Pier for more shopping.

BVU's Homecoming is next week, along with Hampton-Dumont's, I think that I'm going to have to stay here because there is just too much going on that I don't wanna miss.

I have to get going, but there's is a condensed version of the past 2 1/2 months.

God bless to you and your family,
Danielle and family
