John passed away Saturday, November 2. He died very peacefully in Wende's arms. I have been staying with John and Wende for the past week and feel very fortunate to have seen the love and affection surrounding them from both family and friends. John was able to stay at home and have many meaningful times with Wende, Nicholas, and Lindsay, and his incredible strength and courage that was so evident during the past year never wavered. My admiration for both Wende and John has grown stronger everyday as I watched them facing this difficult time together with such strength and dignity.
Wende has been especially amazing these last months in her devotion to her husband and children and a constant source of love and strength for us all. Wende was both nurse and wife to John, and towards the end she was unable to be both so they decided to move to the Casey House which provided them the opportunity for Wende to devote herself to just being his wife. I feel very honored to have witnessed the bond between my sister and her husband these last several days.
On behalf of my family I would like to thank each and every one of you for your wonderful care and support. All of your entries have been a source of continual comfort and strength for both Wende and John.
