Josh's Page

Welcome to Josh's page. This page has been created to keep our friends and family abreast of Josh's journey as a child with complex health care needs and multiple disabilities. Many families like ours seek a way to let others know what we are going through; we provide the information on this site so that you'll understand and continue to support us with your encouragement, thoughts, and prayers. We are grateful for every day. Even though Josh denies that he's a 'special' boy, he has enriched our lives and those of people who care for him in many wonderful ways. Please continue to visit our site so that you can share this wonderful journey with us. Sincerely, Vic, Deb, Nick, Jon, and Josh Harris

I have my back-to-school relaxation kit ready and waiting for me. It comprises a Ghiradelli chocolate bar (with carmel filling), a perm kit (haven't been to the beauty parlor in five years); a new bottle of nail polish with matching lipstick; and a Simple Living magazine. Those kids won't even know their mom when they get home from school tomorrow!

Yippee!! The first day of school! What a celebration! Josh is now in the fifth grade. That is truly a blessing and a miracle. He's so excited to go back to school that he hyperventilated much of the evening. I did what I could to stop him - nothing worked. I can't tell you how happy I was to see Nurse Opal come through that door! She's our Angel of Mercy tonight. We've had open shifts for 64 hours straight. I don't mind it a bit because I'm so happy to be able to take care of Josh. The problem is, my body doesn't seem to like not sleeping through the night for days on end anymore. I look haggardly. Of course, that will all be resolved with a good six hours of sleep tonight and a home spa session and a bar of chocolate tomorrow.

I'll be taking pictures of every boy, much to their dismay. This is the first year that Nick will be driving, so that will be a special picture. Josh will be ready to push his own wheelchair down the street - he can't wait to get out of here in the morning. Jon's been practically counting the hours until school starts.

Let's face it; it was one rough summer. We had a blast at Wisconsin Dells last weekend, though. My mom came to keep an eye on Josh and we were able to enjoy ourselves with all of the boys and my sister's family. Of course, I saw my picture in a bathing suit today and I've decided that I need intervention. I'm going back to my morning water aerobics class as soon as I get through this week and I'm adding a women's strength building class. That should make my Arnold Schwartzenegger biceps unbelievably attractive. Nonetheless, I'll be better able to carry around my 87-pound kid.

Have a good day everyone!

Deb
