Heather Lee Rawie

JUNE 17, 1984 - AUGUST 1, 2004
Heather was diagnoised with Acute T-Cell Lymophoblastic Lymphoma stage IV on May 28, 2003. Three days later on May 31, 2003 she was suppose to be graduating from high school, but instead was in the ICU at Barnes Jewish Hospital getting her first Chemo treatment. She was released a week later and was in remission until December 9, 2003.
The Lymphoma had moved into her brain. She had more chemo and then in February of 2004, she began 12 radiation treatments.

She had no more chemo because they were trying to get her strong enough for a Bone marrow transplant..With all the chemo and steriods they had her on she could barely walk.
On April 9, 2004 they found lymphoma again this time in her kidneys.
She went in for her transplant on April 13, 2004. She had lots of problems while we were there but she made it out on May 10, 2004. She ended up back in the hospital on July 2, 2004, she was not responding to us at home. One of the meds she was taking sometimes did this to her so we were not to concerned. But while she was in the hospital she got pneumonia and then things started taking a turn for the worse. Not at anytime during this did I believe she would not make it. I knew she wanted to live more than anything we had talked about it at great length.
I guess the Lord had other plans for Heather because on August 1, 2004 she got her wings.

In life we all want to be something..Mine was to be a mommy(as Heather called me). Heather was the best 20 years of my life.

I will miss what people would say to Heather when we were together "you look just like your mommy!" Heather never saw it..she insisted we didn't look alike..kids
I Love you Heather!!

Ode to my cousin, Heather

A picture has a special place in my heart
It's the first thing I think of when my day starts
In the picture are two girls
One with straight hair, the other with curls

The one with curls wasn't doing well
She had cancer called Lymphoma t-cell
Her life ended shortly after it began
But now she's in a place filled with happiness and fun

When I look at the picture I sometimes cry
But I always feel better when I look at the sky
I know she's up there sitting on a white, puffy cloud
Looking down on me, I know she's really proud

She loved stars so she's probably happy in heaven
She even named one star Mr. Beven
When I look at the stars, they are always smiling at me
Letting me know she's alright and free

When she first died I didn't know what to say
I just sat still like a statue all day
She was always there for me when I needed
someone to talk to
Thinking how she always cared helps me get through

On a wall a picture hangs
Of two girls with bangs
They will be friends no matter where they are
Even if one is with the stars
