Folden Lee IV

Welcome to Folden's web page~

Folden was diagnosed with AML (Leukemia) in May 2003. He was 17 months old. He received several rounds of chemotherapy at UNC Children's Hospital and went into remission in late summer. He relapsed right before Christmas 2003. He received a cord blood transplant on April 2, 2004 at Duke University Medical Center....His own cells returned...Folden continued treatment and a second transplant was given on June 8...In spite of gallant efforts, the leukemia cells advanced. Folden died on September 1, 2004. He was 2 years old.

Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:31

Folden's friends and family have established Me Fine Foundation in order to pool resources to assist families with children in treatment. The mission of Me Fine Foundation is to voluntarily provide necessary resources and financial assistance to parents and caregivers with children being treated at Duke and UNC Children’s Hospital regardless of race, diagnosis, economic status or religion in memory of Folden Lee, IV. To date, nearly 200 families have benefited through the efforts of Me Fine Foundation.

WHY ME FINE? After months of chemotherapy, radiation and two transplants, you might expect a two-year-old child to act fussy or, at the least, weary…but when he was going through these horrendous treatments, you could ask, “Folden, how are you today?” Without fail, his answer was always, “ME FINE!"

Journal

It's been 12 years since the last time I saw you. You would be about to turn 15 years old and I can only imagine what my life would be like with you here. I'm sad for all that we've missed; all the fantastic adventures we surely would have experienced; all the sweet giggles, hide and seek sessions, and peek-a-boos; all the explanations for the mud on your boots, all the excuses for the mounds of trucks and tractors strewn over the living room floor, all the reasons why you didn't do your homework, and all the theories for how your truck was stuck deep in the woods. I miss you. It's that simple. I miss who you were and I miss who you would have been. I really miss all the things we had to miss. But just know that I've done the best I could. The immeasurable love I have for you has been shared with others; it has found a way to weave in and out of the lives of many with its resilient and mindful determination. This great love I hold deep inside me has found its way out. It looks different and feels different but it was all for you my sweet boy. One day soon, I will tell you all about it.

Love, Mommeee
