Alysia Cunningham Alysia was the perfect definition of health; however, in December of 2003 Alysia began having flu like symptoms: fever, vomiting, and then had her first febrile seizure. The seizure was not a major surprise, her father had them until he was the age of 5. After the first seizure I took her to the local E.R., I was told she tested positive for the flu and to alternate motrin and tylenol. I did what the doctor said, but it would not bring her fever down! So she had another seizure. Back to the emergency room we went, this time I asked them does she have cancer? The doctor replied with a laugh and just acted as if I was nuts and said,"No, its the flu." Shortly after that Alysia began feeling better so we were able to enjoy our Christmas, thanks to the Lord for that. Then, on December 29, 2002 we went to the pediatrician for her 18 month well exam, and the doctor felt the mass and sent us to Childrens immediately. That is when our journey began! Alysia was diagnosed January 1, 2004 with Wilms Tumor, Stage 1 with a favorable histology. She completed an 18 week protocol on May 6, 2004, and she has been in remission ever since! Praise God!!!
