Jonny Barlett

This page was created for Jonny, to keep everyone up to date on his treatment.
Jonny was born on 2-04-94, and left this world on 12-27-01, at 3:44 pm, after a long and hard battle with Leukemia. I will continue to update this webpage, to let you know of memories of Jonny, and also what is happening in our life.

One out of every 330 kids will get cancer before the age of 20. Every school day there is 42 children that are diagnosed with cancer. That is enough to fill 2 classrooms, with children.
Each year cancer kills more children thanasthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, congenital anomalies, and AIDS - combined!!!!!!
When will there be equal support between adult and childhood cancers. Right now majority of funding goes for adult cancers. Here is something for you to think about for awhile. 90% of children are on clinical trials, while 90% of adults are off of them. Children are blazing the path for new and better treatments out there, we should make sure that they can do that.

Here is a poem, that fits any parent. I know that it has a special place in my heart.
Just For This Day:
Just for this morning, I am going to smile when I see your face and laugh when I feel like crying
Just for this morning, I will let you choose what you want to wear and smile and say how perfect it is.
Just for this morning, I am going to step over the laundry, and pick you up, and take you to the park to play.
Just for this morning I will leave the dishes in the sink and let you teach me how to put that puzzle of your together
Just for this afternoon, I will unplug the telephone and keep the computer off, and sit with you in the backyard and blow bubbles.
Just for this afternoon, I will not yell once, not even a tiny grumble when you scream and whine for the ice cream truck, I will buy you one if he comes by.
Just for this afternoon, I won't worry about what you are going to to be when you grow up, or second guess every decision I have made where you are concerned.
Just for this afternoon, I will take us to McDonald's and buy us both a Happy Meal so you can have both of the toys.
Just for this evening I will hold you in my arms, and tell you a story about how you were born, and how much I love you.
Just for this evening, I will let you splash in the tub and not get angry.
Just for this evening, I will let you stay up late whilst we sit on the porch and cout all of the stars.
Just fo rthis evening, I will snuggle beside you for hours and miss my favorite TV shows.
Just for this evening I will run my fingers through your hair as you sleep
I will simply be grateful that God has given me the greatest gift ever given
I will think about the mothers and fathers who are searching for their missing children, the mothers and fathers who are visiting their childrens graves instead of their bedrooms, and mothers and fathers who are in hospital rooms, watching their children suffer senselessly, and screaming
inside that they can't take it anymore.
And when I kiss you good night, I will hold you a little tighter, a little longer, it is then, that I will thank God for you, and ask them for nothing except one more day.

Just wanted to share this with everyone, since this shows a little insight into the life of a cancer child / parent.

Lyrics
Sara Beth is scared to death
To hear what the doctor will say
She hasn't been well, since the day that she fell
And the bruise just won't go away

So she sits and she waits with her mother and dad
And flips through an old magazine
Till the nurse with the smile stands in the door
And says will you please come with me

Sara Beth is scared to death
Cause the doctor just told her the news
Between the red cells and white, something's not right
But we're gonna take care of you

Six chances in ten, it won't come back again
With the therapy we're gonna try
It's just been approved, it's the strongest there is
And I think that we caught it in time
And Sara Beth closes her eyes.

Chorus:
And she dreams she's dancing
Around and around without any cares
And her very first love is holding her close
And a soft wind is blowing her hair

Sara Beth is scared to death
As she sits holding her mom
Cause it would be a mistake for someone to take
A bald headed girl to the prom

For just this morning, right here on her pillow
Was the cruelest of any surprise
And she cried when she gathered it all in her hands
The proof that she couldn't deny
And Sara Beth closes her eyes

Chorus:
And she dreams she's dancing
Around and around without any cares
And her very first love is holding her close
And a soft wind is blowing her hair

Bridge
It's quarter to seven, that boy's at the door
And her daddy ushers him in
And when he takes off his cap
They all start to cry
Cause this morning where his hair had all been
Softly she touches just skin

And they go dancing, around and around
Without any cares
And her very first true love is holding her close
And for a moment she isn't scared
