Kelsey's Bone Marrow Tranplant Welcome to Kelsey's journal. I started it when she needed a life saving bone marrow transplant for Aplastic Anemia. It was originally created to keep friends and family updated while Kelsey in the hospital in Boston.
Today I keep the site for those same friends and family who may still want to check in. But now I also keep it for strangers around the world who may be searching for something on the internet about Aplastic Anemia. It's for the people who never heard of the disease until a doctor told them they have it. It's for the parents who are now going through what I went through when I learned my child had it. It's a long story that has a happy ending.
Lucky me, I got to write it.

Friday, November 28, 2008 11:17 AM CST Just a quick update to let you all know that Kelsey is doing really well!
She is now 24 years old and happily employed as a Certified Child Life Specialist at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence, RI.
When she was being treated for Aplastic Anemia starting in 2000, we were lucky to have Child Life Specialists on her medical teams in the clinics and on the floors at Hasbro, Dana Farber Cancer Research Institute and Boston Children's Hospital. They helped her cope with life in the hospital is such a way that without knowing it they helped her decide on a career.
At Hasbro she went from being a patient to being a volunteer, a student intern, a per/diem employee and finally a staff member of the Child Life Department.
What helped keep me going through the difficult days when she was battling Aplastic Anemia was the hope that something good would come from all the bad that was happening.
Now she is helping families everyday with their difficult days in the hospital. How luck these families are to have Kelsey on their team of care givers!
During this season of Thanksgiving I want you all to know how thankful I am for the prayers and support you have given us over the years.
My hope is that anyone reading this journal finds encouragement in my words.
Happy Thanksgivings 2008!
