Friday, July 05, 2002 at 02:54 PM (CDT) Hello Everyone,
I'm sorry it has been so long since I updated this page.
Hal and I have returned to work and are trying to get things somewhat back to normal.
I wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone at Duke University Medical Center for all of the wonderful care, love and support that we were given during our stay. Even though we did not get the results we wanted, I just want to say that I would not change our decision to have Sydney transplanted. We know for sure what would have happened to her if we had not taken the chance. We tried to give our precious baby a chance at life and it did not work but perhaps by her taking this step, the doctors learned something for the next child with MLD that has a transplant.
I also met the most wonderful and amazing people while at Duke and would like to think that I am a better person because of them. There are the best Doctors, Nurses and Support Staff at Duke and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. I have made some wonderful friends that I hope I will have for the rest of my life. These are some world class people that definitely make a difference!!!
I also met some great families that helped make our stay on 5200 and in Durham much more bearable. Without them to lean on I'm sure I would have had a much harder time. I miss all of you very much!
I'll continue to update as I get news on friends or news about our family. Please keep on signing the guestbook. I love to read your comments. It keeps me going on days that I don't think I can.
Please continue to keep everyone on 5200 in your prayers as well as the kids that are already out and the kids that are waiting to get in. They have such a hard road ahead of them.
Also, please remember the families of the children who are in heaven with Sydney. I had no idea how hard losing a child was. It stays with you 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I don't think I have a moment when I'm not thinking about Sydney in some way. I pray that it will get easier as time goes by.
Please also remember to pray for all the great people who work at Duke. They have jobs that affect them lots of times almost as hard as it affects the families and they have to go on and continue to work with the sick children. They don't get to leave and get back to a somewhat normal life as we do.
Well, that's all for now. I'll write more later.
Love, Holly
