Friends,
We weathered Hurricane IKE fairly well. We had one large pine tree fall from the neighbors yard across the driveway, but it did not do any damage. We lost part of our fence on one side and had a lot of limbs and branches, but all in all came out unscathed, The number of trees in our older neighborhood that fell is incredible, yet most of them fell into the streets and away from the houses. Our electricity was just put back on this evening, 9 days after the storm. The first few days were wonderfully cool and dry, but the last two were getting hot and humid. We are enjoying the air conditioner tonight.

School has been out since the storm. Trey starts back tomorrow and I start on Tuesday. This unscheduled holiday came too early in the year to be a relief and actually turned into an inconvenience. I will use tomorrow while Trey is gone to get my life together again in preparation for a long haul until Thanksgiving. So far, however, I really like my school and enjoy being a librarian. It is a lot of work while there, but much less take home work. I never minded the teaching just tired of all the other stuff required of teachers. While there is still a lot of other stuff in librarianing, it is more office type work which is a refreshing change after teaching all day.

Bless all the kiddos out there fighting this terrible disease. Pray for a cure and strength for them all. Also, keep those Texans that find themselves cleaning up a mess and rebuilding after iKE in your thoughts.

Valerie
