Tuesday, December 11, 2007 4:17 PM CST Christian had his salivary gland removal and re-section on Friday, October 26th. The surgery went very well. We had some slight issues with excessive swelling post-surgery but resolved those with elevating his head in bed and icing both sides of his face every 2 hours for about 15 minutes each.
The surgery was a huge success. Christian's secretions have been dramatically reduced, allowing him to stay upright for longer periods of time. It's already made a huge difference in terms of transport to and from school and he's more medically stable for outings. In addition, he's tolerating wearing his back brace better now and just, in general, seems happier. I'm so glad we had it done!
Since Christian had just had his surgery right before Halloween, we weren't sure if he was going to be doing well enough to go trick-or-treating but he was doing so well we were able to take him out. Since Christian already had both sides of his face bandaged with gauze after the surgery, we decided to just go with the theme and wrapped him as a mummy for Halloween. He was really cute!
On another note, we took Corbin and Christian to see The Polar Express at the IMAX Theatre located at the Bob Bullock Museum. Corbin had seen it once before about 3 years ago but Christian had never seen it. Christian's been to the movies many times but he had never been to see a 3-D movie and The Polar Express is just spectacular. I think Christian really enjoyed it!
Christmas is around the corner now so we're busy getting shopping done and planning for the holidays. We're finally beginning to get a bit of cooler weather. It's hard to get into the Christmas spirit when it's 85 degrees outside!
Wishing you and your family a Very Merry Christmas and Many Blessings in 2008!
