Hello Everyone,
Today marks the date that Carolyn's/Mom's CML Journey ended and her Heavenly Journey began. It is so very unbelievable that a year has passed. We would lie to you if we said it has been anything less that profoundly sorrowful. Yet amidst our tears and missing her deeply, we have seen God's hand profoundly displayed, not only in our own lives, but around us as well. Today, her name is known, literally around the world.
In memory of her, we want to encourage you to do a few things...
1. become a regular Blood Donor or renew your commitment if you've donated in the past. It is practically painless and many individuals will benefit. It is such a quick and easy thing yet something that is life changing.
2. check into getting on the National Marrow Donor Registry at www.marrow.org. Forget the "Marcus Welby" idea of this procedure - it is painless to get on the registry, and, in most cases the act of actually donating the stem cells is much like giving blood. I know of individuals who have donated and then sat with their relative (in the case of a sibling match) while they received those very cells. By registering, you might just save someone's life.
3. Help us help others by supporting Carolyn's Hope. This organization helps other CML patients, and their families as they travel a CML Journey. Visit www.carolynshope.org to see the many incredible things happening.
We have been so comforted by your calls, letters, hugs, meals, and your selflessness. Some of you have brought meals to dad, mowed his lawn, and many other things, and to you we say a heartfelt thank-you.
As we approach the actual hour, we can tell you today with certainty that we will be reunited with her someday. Until then, we dedicate ourselves to fighting this disease and doing all we can to ensure that others experience good quality of life and get the treatments they need.
When we think back on our mother, we know that she "made her dash count". She lived life with purpose and touched the lives of many. We encourage you today to make your dash count too! Live intentionally and with purpose. You will not be disappointed!
Thank you for your love, care, and concern for our family!
In love,
John, Greg, Todd, and the entire family
