Today, Meghan's blood tests showed another big plunge in her platelets. This is not a usual side effect of the Sorafenib drug. It is being attributed to the platelets not fully recovering from the double stem cell transplant. It took 17 months for her platelets to get to 159, the low end of the normal range. With this new treatment they are just not strong enough to keep up. So, the plan is to take 5-6 days off with no treatment and see if the platelets can rebound. If not, Meghan will continue with the drug at half dose. If the platelets are improving, the oncologist will decide if Meghan should try the high dose again. A CT scan is scheduled on October 22nd and we will have more direction after those results. Meghan's face, ears, and scalp are bright red, sore, and itchy from taking the drug. She also has some soreness in her feet and has lost about 6 pounds. Her hair is thinning too which we were told wouldn't happen. Needless to say, she will be happy to be drug free for the weekend:) Her Bacteriology class is really challenging. She has been hard at work studying for tests and labs. We really miss her at home but are glad that she is enjoying college life. I continue to pray for the newly diagnosed kids, relapses, those recovering from treatment, and those who have gone to heaven early in their lives. Please pray that Meghan's cancer will not interfere with her life and God will bless us all with a cure soon! Sue
