I hope you still check your guestbook. We are friends of Kenny Q and loved reading your caringbridge as it is a true inspiration to our family. My son, Noah, was diagnosed with leukemia 4 1/2 months ago and we have a long battle ahead. It is good to know that there is a light at the end of the very long tunnel. Lots of thoughts and prayers go to your whole family.

Hi Dana, It's Anthony your neighbor. I came across your page while doing some cancer research. I am so happy to hear that your son is doing well and that the transplant was a success. I was also a stem cell donor for one of my brothers who had AML. Unfortunaetly he was unable to recover from the disease. It's great to hear a success story. All my best wishes are with you and your family for continued good health and happiness.

Hi-
You don't know me, but I am Alex Wiser's Aunt Lynnie, and I read your very kind, encouraging post on his carepage. From here, I followed the link to your webpage. It is SO encouraging to see pictures of your beautiful son, and to read your journal. It gives me hope for my nephew, and I want to thank you for making the effort because it truly gives other families inspiration. God Bless your family and continue to keep you in his care. I'm so happy to read your son is JMML FREE!!
Regards-

Wandering through. I saw in your last entry that you plan on closing down the site. I definitely remember making that decision years ago. While I absolutely identify with the need for closure. I also can share the same sentiment that Chris has regarding Zach's site. I have some regret that others can not now read Kayli's story online. I thought that your final entry would act as a fantastic prelude to the remarkable story of your family's tremendous battle. Wishing your family the best. I truly drew great strength from Zach's story while Kayli was in midst of her battle with JMML. Thank you for sharing!

I hate to see you close the site, but I guess you need to move on and put this behind you. I will make one last vain attempt to talk you into not deleting it, so others can be moved by his story. But who listens to me, with all the new babies born here on caringbridge, do you think one was named Christine? NO!!! LOL Wishing you all the best. You deserve it.

Dana,
It's good to re read the history of Zachary. It's even better that the ending turned out so well!! I am so grateful that he is happy and healthy and without long term complications. You almost couldn't write it better, except to delete the whole diagnosis and treatment altogether!!

I love that song Better days........because of the lyrics. I have it as my ringtone on my cell phone......may we all have "better days"......

Happy be-lated birthday. With working two jobs, two kids, two dogs and husband, I have not had much time with anything these past couple of months. I am so glad that you are doing so well and I am so glad that you are enjoying your sleeping bag that you got for your birthday. We are planning Jordan's make a wish. He is going to Florida. We leave January 9, 2005. This is good for his birthday is January 12, 2006 he will be 5. My birthday is January 11, 2006 so we will both be able to celebrate our birthdays in Florida. Just wanted to wish you and your family a wonderful, happy and healthy merry christmas and a wonderful new year. You are such an inspiration to our family. Even though I have not been able to keep in touch you and your family have never been far from my heart, thoughts and prayers.

What an amazing story! I just read through/partly skimmed all the updates of Zach's fight with JMML. It's like I've been to a really good "feel-good movie" as they call them. I found your link on yahoo. A lot of stuff you wrote during his low blood-sugar bouts still has me thinking f.o.d. Feel free to ask me why. All that time at the hospital and all the monitoring and tube feeding could have kept it in check during that time. God bless your family.

Alas, I am having the same troubles that you are with computer issues! For all the kids that I check on Zachary is my main page that I come to. Your entries helped all of us through the hardest time of our lives and Meghan's life and we can't thank you enough for that. I can't believe how long it has been! I wonder when I don't see updates but also understand as I had said that I don't update often either. You all became our extended family through the transplant process even though we never met.

Dana,
Great photos and great update.......except for the metabolic/endocrine problem......wonder what is up? Do you know any more info about it yet? Is it going to be a serious long term thing? I sure hope not. I hope things are ok. I've been bad about checking in on websites, but I still think about everyone......your family is beautiful and I hope we're able to hook up again soon.

Keep us posted on the latest with the tests on Zachary.

Hi everyone! I love your new pics. The kids are all so beautiful - I'll bet the boys are so proud of their little sister. It sounds like your Disney Cruise went very well and everyone had alot of fun. I would imagine we'll be experiencing some of the "you're wrecking my wish" stuff on our trip, too! In fact, I can pretty much bet on it! The girls' arguing has taken a twist in a new direction in the past year and has become music to my ears! I guess I'm grateful to still be hearing it. Well, okay, some days I don't have quite the same outlook on it! Take care and God Bless you all!

Dana -

Just in case you didn't get my email, here's what I wrote:
Have a great time on your Disney Cruise!! It was truly a wonderful trip for us!! So Zachary is about 5? Oh, he'll really love seeing all the characters on board! Let's see, what were our highlights?

* The food - we gained 23 pounds between the 4 of us! Its everywhere, all the time and AWESOME!!

* The entertainment - go to the broadway shows they put on - they are great!!!

* The childcare - take advantage of it - parents need a vacation too! And the kids love it so much they don't want to leave!!

* The spa - Mom needs a massage. Ok, its $100 but worth it!!

* The service - ahhhh, to be treated like a star.....

* The port of call:

Key West - my husband and son (12 at the time) went on the sail, kayak & snorkel. Karly & I went on the island trolley tour. Its OK.

Grand Cayman - bummer you won't be going there!! Swimming with the stingrays was a highlight. I'm not familiar with the replacement but I'll bet its great.

Cozumel - We all went on the Playa Sol day trip. It was great!! There was a pool, great beach, unlimited (crappy) drinks and food. It was relaxing and fun!!

Castaway Cay - I want to live there!! Definitely my favorite place!! We bought the bike/snorkel/float combo and never used the bikes. Snorkeling is a must!! And the food was the best we've ever eaten - especially the fresh fruit - OHMYGOSH!!!

If you haven' t already scheduled your land excursions, do it soon because the best ones fill up fast!

The worst part - - - going home!!!

We're already planning to do it again!!

Have a great time!!!!

Hi Dana,
I've been thinking about you and Zachary and wondering how he is doing. Please tell Laura Cole I think about her all the time. I've wanted to reach out to her but I'm not sure if it is right. Your daughter is absolutly beautiful. I love the fact that she and Colton seem close in age. When I clicked on Zach's homepage I couldn't believe how many angels were there. I blew me away. May God continue to bless Zachary and the rest of you. I was with Bruce and Corrine up in CampSunshine in Aug. They are such a nice and fun couple. Please give Zachary an extra squeeze for me.

hello all, we had a great time yesterday. the hermit crab is still named DANA. Sami tells everyone about it. Though I'm still a big frighten of it and so is she. My neighbor will watch Dana for us when we go away as she has one also. The shells are coming in handy as a food dish for Dana. Do you know she was awake the whole way home. Sami has two of Zachary's power rangers. A purple one and a white one if he is looking for them. They were wrapped up in her sweat shirt. THANKS

Q: Why do bears have fur coats?

Dana & family - We join in giving thanks to God and sharing in the joy of your milestones! Meghan is a beauty! Her big brothers (and a few caring angels) will need to protect her from all the boys! The only answer to your query is: God has a plan for each of us - Zachary's plan is here and others (like Colby) are planned to watch over, protect and guide us - always. Thanks for continuing to care and love so much. We hope that we can give you love and comfort in return.

Dear Dana,

Please forgive me for not writing for a while. I have been and will continue to pray for you and keep you close to my heart. Let me tell you I have a story to tell of an extremely difficult pregnancy against ALL the odds, yet my daughter Faith is perfect (in my opinion anyway). However, please get off your feet and take care of Dana! A wonderful aspect of being pregnant and having a large belly is that children are curious and love to curl up, so your other loved ones would love to watch TV in bed with you!!! Take advantage while it last. Everything will turn out wonderfully for you and your family – I just know it and believe it!!!

Happy New Year guys!! Glad the holidays went well for you all. Dana, I am sorry to hear about your complications....will everything be ok? do you just need to be on bedrest mostly and not working? I hope things will proceed ok without any problems.....I will be praying for that and hoping for the best. Maybe if you will be home more, we can catch up more easily. I love all the new photos too!

Sending you all the best.
Love,

The birds were a-squawking and just bugging me in general to send this greeting for the New Year. New Years Eve they were safely tucked in their cages, with a loud air purifier running so they didn't hear all the fireworks in our neigbhorhood. We are a "stay at home" family on New Years, because so many of our neighbors put on spectacular fireworks displays. But that doesn't help with the birds, that's for sure! So, as we rolled in this new year, we were thinking about you today, our long distance friend, and oh, yes, the dogs and cats just reminded me they want to be included in our wish, too. So, here goes. Happy New Year from: (there'll be a quiz on this later, ha ha ha!)

Sport the collie, Murphy the Shih-Tzu, Esmerelda the Maine Coon cat, Lex the black cat, O'Malley the grey and white cat, Charlotte the himalayan, Tripoli the Yellow Nape Amazon, Pompeii the Severe Macaw, Dasani the Blue-headed Pionus, Mokuba the Jenday, and Mirage the Congo African Grey...(all 11) and Sam the 6th grader, Ben the 4th grader, Cathie and Mike. Whew. By the time you get through all these, it will be 2005!

Remember, you can click on the photo to see the birds on their website. (They told me THEY own it now. Pushy, aren't they?)

Happy New Year to you and yours! I hope your mommy and daddy enjoyed your time away to ring in 2004, and it wasn't too much excited for your new baby coming this year. Be good for your mommy and daddy and nice to Kyle so that all will go smoothly as the baby prepares for the real world. Happy 2004-I am sure it will be another year to remember.
