Hello, Mason! We're praying for you and pulling for you so that you and Jim can get back to some serious games of
"War" real soon. Maybe -- just once -- you'll let Jim get a few good cards, like an ace or a joker. We miss you and look forward to having you visit us in our new house and ride on the ATV with Jim in the valley. We love you!

Hi Mason,

I am sitting at my desk at school getting some work ready for the class. We learned about Eskimos today and I sent one with Adam for you to make while at the hospital. I am sure the Eskimo will like it now that we have snow on the ground. The next activity we are working on is "I Love To Read" month. I know you like stories and would like some to listen too when you are in the hospital. Ask mom if it is okay to send you some of the many books and cassettes I have at school. Just tell her to call or e-mail me and I will send them to you. I think about you often and all the children think about you too. Take care.

Love,

Kurt and Sandy I think about you guys everyday, and I am so sorry I haven't contacted you before today, My dad let me know at christmas time -- Boden fell of a atv oct 12 and
was in the hospital for one month-- it was a nightmare
but a scratch compare to what you have been through. Mason
has such strength and the heart of a lion. The apple
doesn't fall far from the tree. Our children are tiny
vessels of a visiting God. Bo will have some disability
with his left hand, and we have more surgeries, but both our
babies are courageous, and they teach us everyday.
Sandy- you are a beautiful mother
Kurt- Garnet would be proud
I love you both

Hi Mason,
How are you doing? Today we made paper snowmen at school. If it ever snows we get to make real ones with the third graders. I saw the picture of you on the computer with your brothers and your kitten. The kitten was cute. I have a kitten too. I got it for Christmas. I named him Gunner. He is very playful.
I hope your headaches are gone. Mrs. Sexton told us that you got to go home for awhile. A teddy bear is sitting in your chair at school to keep your table company. I will say a prayer for you tonight to get better.
Love, Annie

Hi, Mason.
This is now the 2003rd year since Jesus came to live with us on earth. That's a long time ago and Jesus is still with us and He is working helping you get well. So do whatever the doctors need you to do to get well.
I looked at the pictures on the computer and I'm surprised you have any room in your bed with those big stuffed animals around you. Hope they are keeping you warm and comfortable. Again, the sisters are praying for you and many of them ask me about you and how you are doing. They are so interested in getting you well. Love, Miriam, OSB

Hi Mason,

I just looked at your photos and saw the giant monkey you received. I absolutely love it and can't wait until you can bring it in for show and share.

I enjoyed talking with you on Christmas Eve. From the sounds of your mom's journal, Santa had no problem finding you that night. I hope you got the presents you wanted. When I talk to you this week, you can tell me about your gifts. I really love the plaque you gave me for Christmas. I will place it on my desk at school.

I was busy at school this morning getting things ready for January. I think you will like the things I will be sending down. One of the projects is a snowman. Since we do not have any snow, this will be made of paper. Remember, I don't like snow, so paper snowmen are just fine with me.

I will talk to you this week. Take care and know that I think of you often.

Mason,
You have never met me, but I am a friend of your Mom's from school. Your Mom and I did alot of things together - just like you do with your friends. I heard that you were in the
hospital and I wanted to let you know that I am praying for
you everyday. You sure sound like a strong boy who will start feeling better very soon. I would love to come and see you sometime - I could bring pictures of your Mom and me
when we were in school. Would you like to see these? Your
Mom was so much fun to hang around with in school - I miss
seeing her, and I can't wait to meet you! I am praying for
you to get better real soon. Give your Mom a hug for me.
Take care -

Sandy, Mason, and family,
I heard through the prayer line at Holy Trinity that Mason had relapsed. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers, especially at this time of the year when we celebrate love of family and being together. I know it must be difficult to be separated from those you love and having to deal with this illness again. It sounds like you have great support! I wish Mason the best his second time around. I will keep all of you in my prayers.

Dear Sandy and Mason,
I am so sorry that you all have to endure this illness again. Joanne and Janice have been keeping me updated and I just got the email yesterday. Please know I am keeping you all in my prayers. I am keeping a close eye on your Mother/Grandma and she is doing very well. She asks about you every day. She is learning to walk with her walker. She was out for dinner a few days ago and she had a good time. There have been many christmas parties and kids caroling. She's having a good time. May the light of Christ fill your hearts and give you peace and hope. And may all your doctors and nurses be blessed with knowledge and the skill to heal you all. Sincerely, In Friendship, Jeanne.

Hi MASON,

I was busy getting work ready for school tomorrow and just wanted to let you know I am thinking of you. I hope you are getting a chance to do your homework that Adam picked up for you on Friday. Adam did a great job making your candy cane. I hope you get to hang it on your Christmas tree. I also sent along the Christmas ornament with your picture for your family. You get to decorate the other side, hopefully you have plenty of markers at the hospital, because I know how you love to color with them. If all goes well, someone from our class will get to call you on Tuesday.

The class is sending a special gift for you. We all hope you enjoy it. Keep smiling and we will be in touch.

Love,

Hello, Mason! We miss you so much and we keep on praying for you. You know that we'd be there with you if we could, but right now you are in good hands with Diane and your mom and family. By the time you get out of the hospital, we'll have a new house! You'll have to come and check it out and take another ATV ride with Jim in the valley. Hi Mason-
Wanted to send a little hello from the Motzko's. This is the first time I've been able to get on here and this is a neat way to talk to you and your family. Just wanted to let you know we went to church today and the pastor asked people to come forward if they needed prayer for anything-all of the sudden I saw Adam going up for prayer, He was asking everyone to pray for you. We won't quit!!! We had fun with Zach too. I don't think him and Adam watched much of the wrestling but they had fun making paper airplanes and throwing them at the girls!!

Dear Sandy & Family:
I just happened to click on Caring Bridge and read Mason's wonderful news! Congratulations on being cancer-free for a year, Mason! You are such an incredible guy and you look awesome! God is so good, huh? I'm so glad to hear that you are enjoying kindergarten! Ali just loves it too! It's hard to believe that both of you are in school now, for it almost seems like yesterday that we were in the ECFE class! Cheryl, Lance and the boys moved to Colorado at the end of May and are doing well - it is absolutely beautiful there! (I visited them in August). I miss them so much though and it has been hard having her gone. Lance's father just passed away also, so it's hard not being there for them. I promise to pray for Joanne also - she was Mason's special angel for the time he was sick! I hope you are all doing well and maybe we will see each other sometime this fall! Take care and may God continue to bless your family with wonderful news!
Very Truly Yours,

This is just an update on Mason from our viewpoint . . . We were fortunate to have him stay with us last week from Thursday afternoon through Saturday morning. He and Jim enjoyed three walks in the valley and three bonfires during that time, and they played football, hide and seek, built things with blocks, watched movies and did a little shopping. By the time we returned Mason back to Sandy on Saturday, BOTH he and Jim were ready for extra naps! It's so wonderful to see Mason feeling well, having great energy, and continuing to ask why the chicken crossed the road! Oh, we are so grateful to be beyond those days in the hospital, and we just keep on counting the blessings! God is soooooooooo good! Love to all, Jim and Joanne

I hope things go well for you on your biopsy this week. I am constantly thinking of all of you. I've been in your place before (and still am)and waiting is one of the hardest things to do. Angie's bisopsy in October showed 100% donor cells so we were thrilled to hear that. Angie is going to Children's now for check-ups but only once a month for counts. She doesn't have any lines in right now so it is a finger poke. She had a port when she was first diagnosed. That was easier to take care of than the hickman but it was also a poke every time. The emla cream seemed to help though. Of course every time I put it on she knew what was going to happen! She had that removed after her last treatment in Feb. 2000. She is only on Bactrim for meds now and she takes pills so we are slowly getting back to normal. Those "100 days" seem so far away then all of a sudden they're gone and you can have a little sigh of relief. Maybe we'll see you at Children's once in a while. Take care and have a very happy holiday season! God bless.

Happy Thanksgiving. I too feel I have many things to be thankful for. One is your friendship, Sandy. The holidays are always a time for reflection. I would love to read Joanne's book. I have had times when the why questions plague me, and it was comforting to know a person as strong as Joanne has the same. Call me when you get a chance, I'd love to hear your voice. Enjoy the turkey.

Our Friday night and Saturday morning were, again, filled with joyful times with Mason while the rest of the family was at the Bingo night in Watertown. He has so much energy now, and he and Jim played like four-year-olds should! We're very grateful that he's so well these days, and our prayers now are prayers of gratitude. We feel very privileged to have been a part of Mason's care along the way. We know we'll never forget all our "Mason Moments" -- whether or not he'll remember them himself. Closing the door on that apartment Saturday closed a part of our lives as well as his life. What a mix of memories -- worries, wonders, tears, laughs, fears, hopes, prayers . . . almost too much to absorb. Being a part of it all strengthened us, and we drew our strength from both Mason and Sandy -- and from God, of course! Wow! What terrific sources of strength! Now we'll look forward to good times with Mason and the rest of the family in less trying circumstances.
Lots of Love, Jim and Joanne

Sandy, Mason and family,

I just wanted to let you know that my daughter Angie had her 100 day check-up this week and things are looking great for her. I hope your family will enjoy the same happiness that we have so far. When we first came home it felt so strange because we had been gone for almost a month and a half but once you get back into a regular routine again it's a great feeling! I know we have been lucky with Angie so far she came home much earlier than we had expected and she is doing so well with the whole process that I am truly amazed at her progress. I hope Mason is having the same kind of success. I think about your family often and I keep hoping I will run into you at the clinic but we've only been going there every two weeks and now she will be going back to Children's for her check-ups. I know you must be counting the days like I have been it's a long and even scary road at times but you'll get there - one day at a time. I wish you all the best. Our prayers are with all of you! Take care.

Just a quick note to thank Sandy and the boys for having me over night on Sunday. Mason was so tired from his very busy weekend. He finally did fall off to sleep as did Zach and Adam. Mason is really doing well, and it is so good to see Sandy being able to give his medications orally. Sandy and I had a very nice time visiting after the boys went to sleep. I really admire Sandy for all of her strength and Patience. I just don't know where she gets it all. She truly is my inspiration! May God Bless her and her family always.
Love to All,
Sharon

It was a very good weekend for us with Mason -- while everyone else was at his benefit. He had more than enough energy to wear out both of us! Mason and Jim played ball with the nerf ball and rolled-newspaper bat in the apartment, (as they did in the hospital rooms, too!) and Mason is developing good ball-hitting skills now. Hide and seek and tag also meant plenty of action for both. Jim looked forward to his naps! We all had a good time -- as we hope everyone did at the benefit. It's amazing how much Mason has grown and developed over these months that we've had a chance to be with him, in spite of all his confinement. He's gained weight, grown taller, he speaks more clearly with a much larger vocabulary, and he can tell now when Jim is "tricking" him -- and he tries to "trick" him back! He's such a special boy, and we are so very grateful that he's looking and feeling so well these days. The power of prayer is real! Love to all! Jim & Joanne

Hi Sandy, Kurt & Boys!
We had a GREAT time at Mason's benefit on Saturday, and it was so good to see all of you and spend some time together! What a wonderful job everyone did in putting on a fun time for all, and the kids had such a great time playing all the fun games (they cried when we had to go!). I hope that the benefit was a great success!!! We will keep our prayers going strong for Mason that he will continue to get healthier and stronger every day, and for the rest of you as well! Take care and God bless you!!

Sandy, Kurt, Zach, Adam, and Mason,
My name is Barb Fasching. I'm from Winsted. My niece, Angie, had a bone marrow transplant this summer at Fairview University . Sandy, my sister Laura met and talked to you. One of my other sisters brought an article about your family, and I had the opportunity to read it. I can understand what you are dealing with, though not as much as my sister and her husband and kids do. It's awesome to have family, friends, and a community to support you. I paged through the messages in your guestbook quickly. What support you have! I teach at Holy Trinity, and my niece is a student here also. Everyone here has been praying for her, as well as people in the community, state, and even around the country. It seems to be the same for you. As a family, we feel it is the prayers that have allowed Angie to come through this so well. I know it must be difficult to watch Mason go through what he has, as it has been with Angie. But the strength of those prayers will sustain you. It's neat to see that others help you out and give you a break, Sandy. I'm glad the kids get to be with you. I know Laura always looked forward to the kids being there with her. Just know that there are always people there willing to help. I'll keep Mason and your family in my prayers. May God continue to watch over all of you. Take care.

Good-Morning to All, what Great News to hear about Mason. Duane started combining the beans on tuesday he said where the hail didn't hit as hard or as much the bushels are better. It froze last night so that should help the weeds and the bugs right!! GSL school has Homecoming today and they play against St. Michael-Albertville and looking at how they have been playing they haven't lost and football game, so this will be a very exiting game for both teams cause Glencoe hasn't lost a football game either. Karla will be there to cheer on her team and go to her 1st dance at the Glencoe High School. I hope GSL wins the Homecoming Game.
Karmen got her braces off and she now has a retainer and her smile looks just wonderful.
Last weekend Duane and I went to my 25th Anniversary at 3M to the Northland Inn in Brookly Park that was fun.
We will see you at the Benefit for Mason on the 15th. We will keep you and your family in our Prayers every night.
Lots of Love, Diane Dostal

Hi Sandy,Kurtand boys.
Sorry I haven't written for awhile. It took me days to get caught up on just the mail. Ken tried to keep the yard looking good ,but he isn't as picky as I am,so I had lots of yard work to do. Being away from doing my craft business for 5 weeks ,meant 5 weeks to catch up on!!
I was glad to hear that Mason is doing so well. None of us like to take medicine----maybe the hypnosis will work. I hope Zachs tests come back ok.
we sure do get our faith tested alot lately, don't we! I think the tragedy that happened last Tuesday will only make us all stronger.
God Bless you all. Give Mason a hug for me. I miss you all very much.My prayers are with you always. Love ,Diane

Hey mason, this is a joke, little one that got me mad of laugh because I am as a big boy... and I enjoy this jokes.
But Mom or Janice should find the words to translate it, because I am not sure how to do it well. Bye.
" En el bosque había un Oso y un conejito que estaban refriados"
el Oso lo mira al conejito, y con dulzura le pregunta
- conejito, no te importa que te queden mocos colgando entre los pelitos de tu rostro?
- No! contesto el conejito...
Entonces el Oso tomó al conejito y se sonó la nariz"

Yeekeee..! que cruel no?

I wish I could help you more. Please let me know if you need something. I will see you at the benefit and I have a great big hug for you. Lots of love.

Dear Jergens family,
You've all been constantly in my thoughts & prayers-yesterday especially as you all endured the life-preserving procedure. I know that I am not alone in my faith for Mason's healing-so many care and believe!...an army of believers armed with prayers and faith.
Glad to hear that both Mason and Zach did well during and after the procedure yesterday. You have a family of heroes and brave soldiers! Sandy, you for the 24-hr love and care for your family-each of them! and for your special medical attention and devotion to Mason's needs. Kurt for keeping an assmeblage of the normalcy and preservation of family-needs, and Adam for being a true friend/companion/big-brother during all these stressful times. Zach for the life-giving gift of marrow & the willingness to share in your brother's pain, and of course, Mason--you who continually battle daily against this illness towards full recovery. A family of HEROES, and an army of prayers...God bless each of you! Stay a UNITED front together fighting for Mason's health and may your family reign victorious in Jesus' name!
with love and care and concern and in faith-- erin w.

We're Maryland friends of Jim & Joann Decker, whom we saw a couple weeks ago while visiting Mankato. They shared your/Mason's situation. You are all on our prayer list!
Different situation, but 30 years ago our daughter was born with Downs Syndrome and seven major heart defects. She was in "heart failure" almost from the first and was so small the doc's didn't want to do surgery until she was bigger. While waiting she got a bacterial infection of her heart that had to be treated with MASSIVE doses of IV antibiotics, so she was hospitalized 7 weeks with many tubes & needles (like a new IV stick pretty much every day, to the point they were having to do minor surgery "cut-downs" to find new veins). She was one of only two on record to survive this particular infection at the time, at a couple months later had her surgery and it went well too. She's 30 now & doing great.
We share this simply to attest to the power of prayer and to let you know that sometimes these things do come out the way we parents want them to ----- whatever God's Plan is??????
Sounds like you're doing all the right things to help keep up his spirits -- and your own!
God bless you all.

Dear Mason, dear Sandy and all
We keep praying for you to get well.
Think that every day that it goes, is a day less that you have to wait to get well and strong,
So be ready to play and enjoy.

Just think, and imagine, what’s in life that counts.
What you'll really enjoy, with you hart, so hard so strong.

Because life, it's so nice,
but sometimes things use to confuse us, when the obvious do not count.
When we forget how much we aim to enjoy.
So now,
remember and learn,
because this is the opportunity to learn
It’s when have all our senses awake
Learning for the rest of our life to enjoy.
To enjoy the simple and the good, because life has give us all.

The future, the day you get well
the one we are fighting for.. is coming
…and every day is a day you discount.
Every day is a day less to count.
The future, the good one that we are waiting for,
is going to have a treasure soul.
Because I am sure Mason
you will enjoy life more than anyone around.

As Lorenzo, that had also an illness when he was so Young,
now he is all joy.
Perhaps for the dreams he had?
The wish he realize, the good that for him really counts?
Perhaps, but experience is for everyone but unique and own

Sandy, be strong because you are not alone.
Be smart, because as a mother you naturally are.
Be love, as I know you are, because your fight is the best support Mason can have.

Love
Adrián

Hi Mason and family-
A rough bit of road ahead for all of you--so many of us are praying for you and keeping you near in thoughts. Mason is continuing to amaze me with his strength and cooperativeness and his enduring sense of humor...all of which must fortify his family and keep everyone who knows him to be positive and jolly. You have 3 special boys there with 2 loving parents and that makes for a 5-star family--can't go wrong with that team!!! Prayers for you and admiration too! Keep up the faith! erin w.

We've just returned from 4 days and 3 nights with Mason, and we certainly can testify that he is some special boy! Wow! He puts up with an awful lot with a cooperative spirit and good humor. He was feeling quite energetic through these days of chemo, so he and Jim played a lot of games in spite of the close quarters. He's on a chemo treatment that requires him to go to the bathroom every two hours--around the clock, so through the night, in the darkness of the room, I heard him cooperate with the routine: the nurse comes in and says, "Mason, wake up, it's time to pee." She lifts him out of bed, sets him down, he does his "work," she lifts him back into bed, he goes back to sleep -- and he still smiles in the morning! Oh, yes, we can all learn a lot from Mason! We feel privileged to spend some time with him -- and you can see why! Lots of Love, Joanne & Jim

Hi Mason, Sandy, and family,
Mason, you sure are being a brave soldier for Jesus! We pray for you and your family every day. Hannah wanted me to send you a couple of jokes.
What do you get when you cross a cow and a duck?
A: Milk and quackers! :)
Knock Knock!
Who's there?
Pig!
Pig who?
Pig up your feet or you'll trip! :)
We hope that brought a smile to you. May Jesus and Mary continue to comfort and heal you!

Another good day and getting better! Mason's blood counts doubled since yesterday and the morphine doses have been decreased. He has good color, less pain, more energy. He's been out for a wagon ride this morning; he had two yesterday. We had a good night too, so things are looking up. YIPPEE! Sandy said the doctors said that four things have to happen before Mason can go home: 1. his counts have to go up to an acceptable level; 2. he has to eat; 3. he has to manage without morphine; 4. and he has to be without fevers for 48 hours. We especially need to work on the eating and the morphine yet, but we're at least heading in the direction of getting home! We're so happy to be here and even happier to see Mason improving by the hour. Lots of Love, Joanne & Jim

Oh, it's a much better day, so we must tell you! Mason's blood counts are beginning to go up, and so is his energy!
Yippee! Yesterday we arrived in his room at 3:00 p.m. and he was sleeping, which he did until 9:30 p.m. with a couple of bathroom breaks along the way. When he woke up, he wanted me to tell stories, which I did while I rubbed his tummy until nearly midnight! Not sure I could have come up with one more story, but I was pleased to see him content, without tremendous pain, and without fever. Both he and I slept quite well through the night with only wake-ups for the bathroom. This morning, he slept until 9:30, and immediately looked better and had some energy. He and Jim played Nintendo, something Mason hasn't done for more than two weeks. Good sign! He also had a bath and Jim took him for a wagon ride -- his first time out of the room in a couple of weeks. YES! Seems we've turned the corner on the blood counts and on beating the pain. A good day, indeed! We'll keep you posted. Lots of Love, Jim & Joanne

Hi Jergens,
I am thinking and praying for all of you every day. I bet you boys are good at telling and reading all those jokes to Mason, that all your friends have been writing to you. I can't believe how much you have all grown this summer. WOW.
It is fun to see your pictures. "Take care"

Sandy, Kurt and boys: I check your web page every few days and your a very strong family. The prayers and concerns posted for you all is great to see. I know it must be very hard to see your baby suffer, but this too shall pass and you all have the strength. I too have read the guestbook and said "Thank God for Jim and Joanne!" It is such a blessing to have someone like them in a time of need. We will continue to pray for Mason's strength and recovery along with yours too! Please post if there is anything we (your extended family) can do for you. Maybe bring something to the hospital or run an errand. Maybe you need a cup of coffee and a shoulder? Just ask. Hugs and kisses. LJ

Hello Sandy, Kurt, Mason and family,
I just read the update on Mason. Know that you are still in our prayers. I hope that Mason continues to "hang in there", and his whole family. This is such a nice way to keep everyone updated on the happenings.
Here is a "knock knock joke" that our 5 year old daughter suggested I'd pass along to Mason:
"Knock, Knock"
"Who's there?"
"Panther"
"Panther Who?"
"Panths or no Panths......I'm going swimming!"

May God give you and yours the strength, the gentle touches, the healing sleep - that gives you renewed hope for a brighter tomorrow!

Sincerely, Barb & Mark Traxler and family (friends of Joanne & Jim's from Mankato)

Mason,
we keep praying for you. I know it is no fun to not feel well. You have to get well because the fish in the fishpond here at St. Ben's want to see you. That's what they told me yesterday! They're just swimming around waiting for you! God bless you.

It's Thursday morning, and Jim is with Mason in his room. I'm off to Wasie for my "sleep shift" since sleep has been scarce during the nights. Mason is having mouth pain and body aches especially when he runs a fever, so he needs comforting and distractions both day and night. We read and tell stories and rub his tummy. We're so glad that both Jim and I can be here; Jim sleeps at night and I sleep during the day, and we can help Mason through the hard spots. Today, though, he looks better and he's joking around again. The nurse said Jim can take him out of his room later for a ride in the wagon; they both enjoy that. We're ready for every day to be better! Lots of Love, Jim and Joanne

Just read your update for today and you are all in my prayers daily. This is a very difficult time for all of you and I just wish there was more I could do to help at this time. Just keep your faith and know that the days will get better. Sometimes we wonder why all this happens but put it in God's hands and he will take good care of all. Will talk with all of you soon. It's Sunday evening and I'm sure Mason and Sandy are having some quiet time together after a busy weekend of having the Vazquez family visit from Friday evening till Sunday afternoon. Enrique, Marco, Christina and I had an enjoyable time watching some of Mason's favorite movies and playing in the playroom with him and his brothers. We also stayed with Mason while Sandy, Zach and Adam spent Saturday afternoon at a family reunion in Silver Lake. Sandy and I also visited cousin Randy in Mpls for a bit which was a nice treat. Mason keeps on amazing all of us! Blessings, Janice, Enrique, Marco and Christina

It's 9:30 Friday morning, and Mason just woke up with his first request to go to the playroom with Jim, so unimportant things like breakfast, medications, eye drops, are on hold until they return. He has his priorities straight -- maybe that's why he's doing so well!

Here's an update on Mason for today, Thursday, June 28:
We've been with him since yesterday afternoon, and he's been feeling pretty good, overall. Jim managed to get him to eat three chicken McNuggets, half his mashed potatoes, and half his jello. Wow! Mason slept until 10:30 this morning, and after a piece of French toast and a few bites of scrambled eggs, he and Jim headed for the playroom for some Nintendo. That means the day is off to a good start!
He's now taking his oral med with chocolate syrup, so it goes down pretty well. Sounds brilliant to me! Again, we're just happy to be with him. He continues to keep us laughing and on our toes. Lots of Love, Joanne and Jim

To prove he wasn't a chicken.

What key do you use to open a banana? A mon-key.

What day of the week do chickens hate? Fry-day .

NEWS FLASH: Three more reasons why the chicken crossed the road: 1) because he had beautiful balloons; 2) because he had beautiful butterflies; 3) because he wanted some salami!
No doubt there'll be new reasons today, so hang on! Mason slept well after a big nintendo day. That was his first request of the morning, so that's where Mason and Jim are now. Oh, if only he were that interested in eating! Overall, he has done very well while we've been here. We are so grateful! He has so much to teach us! Lots of Love,

Here's today's update on Mason: Jim and I were with him since Wed. afternoon when he slept for two hours, then played Nintendo with Jim for a LONG time, watched Mulan, and had a bath, followed by a good night's rest. This morning, his first request was to go the playroom with Jim, so that's where they are now. Mason is in good spirits, but not at all interested in eating, although he does drink chocolate milk. Overall, staff are pleased with how things are going, and so are we. Besides, we're delighted to be with him. He is such a great kid! Oh -- yesterday, the chicken crossed the road because it had beautiful feathers! This morning, because it was too chickeny!
Lots of Love to all! Jim and Joanne

Hi, Randy has filled us in on Mason and gave me this website address so we could follow it also. We just want you to know that we are keeping you all in our prayers. We know that God will be watching over Mason and your family. There is already proof of that with the bone marrow tests and the treatments. We are very happy for that. The power of prayer is unreal. We are Melanie's parents (Ryan's wife). Take care and God Bless you all.

Hello Sandy, Kurt, Mason and family,
We are friends of Joanne & Jim from Mankato. We are praying as a family that Mason "gets better". I'm a nurse in the Mankato Hospital - and understand some of the struggles that are involved with "being sick". We also have 3 children, about the same ages as your children - and even more can empathize with you as a parent. I was happy to hear the good news of bone marrow matches! We will continue to pray for Mason, and your family.

We love this web site....and will check in now in then with the progress. The jokes from your friends....about money on noah's ark was a hit at our house. Here's another Noah's ark joke from my daughter Erin (age 8) : Why did Noah Ark's sink?......answer: because he brought along two termites for the trip!

Joke two: What do you get when you cross an ice cream cone and a bird? answer: a sweet tweet!

Joke three: What do you call a giant reptile that appears in a Stars war movie? answer: Darth Gator!

That's all the jokes for now! Hang in there....and know that prayers are coming your way from strangers.
You do have a great Aunt Joanne & Uncle Jim....we value their friendship!
Love, Barb Traxler and family

We've had a good night here with Mason. He slept well, and ate a big breakfast of eggs and toast; even asked for more eggs; hesaid he didn't know eggs were so good! He and Jim are watching a movie right now, following a couple of trips to the playroom and a walk around all the 8th floor hallways. Of course, Mason had a great bath -- just the first of the day; yesterday he had three. One of his favorite activities! He's in good spirits, although his energy level goes up and down, and he's beginning to lose some hair -- all as exptected, the nurses tell us. He continues to be very cooperative, and he keeps asking that big question: Why did the chicken cross the road? He makes up a different answer to his joke every time and enjoys the laughs he gets. What a great kid! We're so glad we could spend a couple of days & nights with him. Lots of Love, Joanne & Jim

Wonderful news about the boys being matches for bone marrow. That had to have been the best birthday news and now with the nurses not striking, I would say the Lord is with you. Sisters inquire about Mason and the family and we keep on praying for all of you. Glad that you got some relief and able to go home for a while. YOU are a real trooper and you've got my admiration. Many blessings and love

Just a note to let everybody know that Mason is doing very well today. He couldn't eat anything until after a late-morning procedure, but he was very patient and had a promise from Jim that he'd have a burger and fries when he woke up -- and he did! After lunch and a bath, we all (Mason, Jim and I) had a two-hour nap! I think Jim did the best of all at this! Right now, Jim and Mason are playing games in the play room, and, since Mason just completed his second round of chemo, he's more free from all the tubes. Overall, it's a very good day, and we're pleased to be here with Mason while Sandy and all get a little time for other things. Lots of Love, Joanne -- and Jim, too!

Hi Sandy and all,
Sorry it has taken so long to write. Been very busy getting
ready for Brett's graduation party this saturday. I can't believe how much work it has been. My mind is just a scramble. Will get through it tho'. Then on Sunday is the ceremony at the high school. My sister will be arriving on Friday afternoon sometime along with my nephew. Their driving up from Illinois. Will be good to see them too.
So, sounds like Mason is doing really well. Great to hear that. Can't wait to hear about the bone marrow match. I know it will be positive, I can feel it!!!!!!!!!!
Well, should try and get some more cleaning done. Will call you soon. I don't expect you will make it out saturday, and that is really quite understandable. If Kurt and the boys want to do something different, tell them to come on over. We have got the horseshoe pits all cleaned up and ready to go.
Talk to you soon
Love - Sharon and family

Hello to all these guestbook visitors. Just a few words of update on Mason. Jim and I and Fr. Ed were to see him yesterday (Monday), and Fr. Ed gave Mason the Sacrament of Healing. Fr. Ed also annointed Sandy and all of us as we share in the healing process. Mason was in good spirits Monday, although he could only have clear liquids in preparation for an MRI in the afternoon. He was craving macaroni and cheese, but he had to wait for that until late afternoon when the procedure was over. Sandy said that, after it all, he just ate a little mac & cheese but did enjoy his mashed potatoes. The doctor stopped in to update Sandy and all of us on the procedures they were going to do and how he sees things. This was Dr. Stephen Nelson who always wears a bow tie and has the most caring bedside manner anyone could hope for. We have been very impressed with all the staff that we've met, and we are sure Mason is in the best of hands. The doctor was pleased with how things are going so far and pointed out that Mason's strength of body and character are on his side. We'll keep on praying! As Sandy told the doctor. . . one day at a time!

Hi, Sandy, Mason, Kurt, Zachary and Adam! Today is Tuesday, 5/22. I'm putting up a note today (a second note) to bring the Sisters up to date on Mason. So know that prayers will be "full speed". Judy and I went to see your Mom, Dorothy, on Sunday. We did not talk about Mason as we didn't think she knows about the illness. We had a great time playing cards and she did so well-- she is the one who took our money! I hadn't called to say we were coming and so she was pleasantly surprised and we had a fun afternoon. We had our town celebration on Saturday that I had been working on. Guess what -- we got rained out. so I guess it is better luck next year. Prayers & love, Miriam

Hi sandy, kurt, zach, adam and MASON I just talked to Randy and he told me about this so I tried to get my internet set back up and had alot of troubles so I am at my neighbors doing this. I went to church this morning and had them pray for Mason. You are in my thoughts constantly.I know God works miracles and Mason will be one of them. Please keep the faith. Hi everyone! This is Janice. This past Saturday and Sunday I was with Sandy, Mason and the family at Children's. Saturday afternoon and evening Mason was in a SUPER mood. It's amazing what a good trooper he is - even with being hooked up to numerous tubes that pass the chemo into his chest. Sunday morning was a bit challenging when he decided to resist taking his oral medication. After some time, though, when things were calmer, he slid the chocolate pudding with medicine right down. Mason also had a visitor, our cousin Randy, but did not get a chance to see him since he was taking a well-needed nap. Even though Mason missed out on the visit we certainly enjoyed the coversation!
The staff that I came in contact with over the weekend are excellent. I was truly impressed with their sincerity and knowledge. Mason is truly in good hands. Good night. Janice

Hi to all. I'll try and do this right this time as I don't know where my other message went. Anyway, I am truly sorry for not offering myself or anything last night. I was caught so off guard and shocked that I didn't even think straight. So, don't hesitate to call me for any thing. If I can do anything just remember that I am just a phone call away. Tony and Chinah would love to help you out also like with the boys. So, If you need somewhere for them for any amount of time, make sure you call me. OK? Promise?
Check your email address also as I will send more notes to that address as I can say more there. OK?
Gotta go for now. Remember that you are all in our prayers and thoughts. Love you guys, and God bless you all!!!!

Sandy, Kurt and Boys, During this difficult time know that you are in my thoughts and prayers and to please let me know if there is anything you need. Remember I am only five minutes from the hospital, you are welcome to stay at my house, eat my food and just relax for a few minutes if needed. Sometimes you need a break also from it all. I will stop as often as I can to see you also, even if it is just for a few minutes. Love always to all of you, Randy
