Hello, sorry we didn't make it back to see you again, I just kept getting worse, and decided is was best to stay away! Molly drove me home on Sunday, I was running a 102 temp. by then. Went to Dr. the next day, she put me on 4000mg of Augmentin, 10 days later, I'm getting worse, today is the 1st day I'm half human, last Friday they told me I had phenomina, so I've ben geting shots, and not the ones in the wee little glasses, and massive doses of drugs, anything to keep me out of the hospital. Molly's back in summerschool,Katie&Jason bought another flip-it house so they're busy with that. Troy's doing fine, playing golf at least once a week, got his boat out to the river a couple of times, and mowing the grass about every 3-4 days. Update your page, how did the g-tube precedure go!?! It was great visiting with you without all the distractions "Troy&Kirk" just kidding guys!
Love and prayers are with ya'll! Rhonda

Hi Theresa and family,

I can't believe that your girls have grown up so quickly. I remember the first year that I made travel arrangements for Kirk. He wouldn't go to a trade show in the fall because it was at the same time as Maggie's first day of kindergarten. It seems like yesterday.

We are still praying for you and know that you are in His hands. Miracles happen every day.

Hi Theresa and Kirk and Claire and Maggie,
We are so glad to hear that you are enjoying all the wonderful and momentous occasions our children bless us with. Isn't it grand? And doesn't it make you feel like time has just flown by? How can Claire have graduated and Maggie be going into 9th grade? And how in the world can I be getting closer to 60? You are all in our prayers everyday. I am proud of and touched by your courage and good cheer. You just go ahead and chew that food, just for the glorious taste. Feeding your taste buds and your senses is always good. Smell that freshly mowed grass and those lilacs.

I'm on the downward slide to the end of the school year. It 's been exciting, demanding, touching, frustrating and thankfully rewarding. I learn something every day. Keeps me VERY busy, but out of trouble (I hope).

Just want you to know that we are thinking of you and your family - your dad too. Hope Kirk is still singing for you. So great to have one who serenades so close at hand. Tell Claire and Maggie congratulations on all their accomplishments. Mary & Russell

Theresa,
Thanks you for sharing during this time of challenge. Thank you for giving during this time of need. Thank you for your courage, love of family and faith in God. I am reminded of scripture (perhaps unique to my LDS faith) wherein we learn that "all these things shall give us experience, and will be for our good" Life is eternal. Families are forever. Theresa, Although I talked to you the other night, I just wanted to add my 2cents worth. You are so right about the waiting for a transplant. As your sister it was constantly on my mind. I even thought about posting a sign here in Cleveland Texas. I can totally understand the desperation. Research and education are the key to making people understand the importance of this subject. How is the knitting going? This is one time I am glad I am not living in Iowa and have to listen to all of the political ads. It gets to be to much. We have the option of voting early in Texas, so I have that done. For the rest of you, get out there and vote. Isn't it great that, we live in a country that allows us the freedom to have different views and still live in peace. Have a good week, keep up the good work, and tell Kirk and girls hello.

Theresa,

Yes...you are right....we ALL were desperate for you to get a liver; however, we realized that this would also impact another family in a very sad way. My thoughts go out to Greenie and his family during this horribly long wait....

Re: the election. I think it's ridiculous that such a small populated state is being inundated with candidate visits. (Of course the good news is that New Yorkers now know?? where Iowa is???) :-)

AND, I agree re: is this the best we can do???....NOT!! But, the choices are there and we Americans have got to vote if we really believe in a democratic society!

My 2 cents worth...

Teresa & Family...It's hard to believe it's been almost two months since the transplant. To think of everything before that day and the hope and the struggle and the prayers eventually all happened and now you're moving further away in the opposite direction. Times like these are messages from God to make us stronger. I watched the TV show Extreme makeover last night about the family of 8 that lost their Mom and how things changed in life and your family has had a positively wonderful change. I know you will use your medical knowledge and witness to God for the betterment of many people. Prayers do get answered.

Dear Theresa, Kirk and Girls,
It has been awhile since I have written a note here and I decided I better check in on the progress and healing of Mother Theresa. Sound like she is getting back to "her more on top of things" self. I have to say, you are again writing your thoughts very well. We appreciate your thoughts on heartfelt thanks and learning to except it as you have. When people cannot fix these BIG problelms or health issues, it is comforting to give words, cards, and especially prayers on behalf of our dear friends. Those in your area were blessed to supply food, other of your needs and the fun part, taking care of Claire and Maggie.
That would have been my fun for me. Still thinking and praying for you. We are encouraged!!! God is Good!!!

Hi Theresa,
I'm so excited that you are back home with your new liver! Can't wait to see you and give you a hug in person.

Hey, maybe we could collaborate on a book! I was going to call mine "Susie's Adventures with Hepatitis C". Maybe you could call yours "The Legend of Theresa and her Lickety-splitting, lip locking, lion-hearted, sometimes lonely, Liver Lovin', Leapin' lizards new liver."

Dedicated to the one and only Jaye Kennedy - of course.

Take care dear friend. here's some +++++++++++++++++++ for you!

Congratulations! Al and I were out of the country from July 23rd until August 11. Then I had a procedure of my own that same week, so we got behind on reading the journal entries. What a thrill to know you have your new liver! It will be wonderful to follow this part of the journey as well. Our very best wishes to you all.

Dear Theresa,
I'm so happy for all of you. This part should be a whole lot easier than that time in the hospital. Best wishes to your whole circle of family and friends.

I hope you saved the receipt on that liver you got the first time around. It expired way before the warranty. You should get your money back.

I wrote the following limerick in honor of your going home.

There once was a bad, nasty, liver.
Its appearance made bold doctors shiver.
So they said, IT MUST GO.
LET'S GIVE IT THE HEAVE-HO!
The replacement leaves all just aquiver.

Cheers to you!

Kirky, Kirky, Kirky,

Ya gotta know that I couldn't let that "sports as a guy thing" comment go. If Tessica was not forbidden from heavy lifting right now, I'd ask her to slam you to the mat for that one. All the more reason for her to do some serious healing and strength building - you haven't been punched around nearly enough recently, that much is clear! Just wait a few months.

So Tessie, are you ready to start your marathon training program pretty soon? All my buddies on the v-board are waiting for you to come run with us. Or will you come out here to ski first? Decisions, decisions. So many things to do, so much catching up. It's great to have you back again.

Happy homecoming to you! And happy birthday to Kirky (how many candles is that, by the way?)

Hey Guys, Please don't tell me where you will be using the staples as I won't be sitting there. I am so happy you are doing so well. Just think without your transplant they would have been starting the testing on me today. What a difference a few days will make. We had been basking in 80
degree weather, and low humidity. It has now changed and we are back to normal. Oh well, we enjoyed it while it lasted. Hi to Maggie and Claire. Happy Birthday Kirk. It is going to be a good one! I will talk to you soon. Love, Bev

Soon, you are to write a book, like Dr. Bill Jacobson, about your life experiences, particularly of those people you have met and their situations and how they deal with life [from your perspective]. Anne King can help put it together. For sure, you need to include the stories of all the gadgets that patients wheel or carry around Rochester. One advantage of catherization is not having to get up in the night or rush to find a rest area on the interstate. You are an inspiration, and so is your family. You kept the faith!

WERE BACK! Since we're together again we thought that we add to your sight - we were going do a page but this is just as good. For those of you who didn't get to read the great updates we did while Theresa was in the hospital - we are sorry you missed out. Theresa - we are partying at Judy's house and missing you!!! Mom got to see your updated page at Ardith's - she was impressed. (She should have seen ours!!) By the way were did get those cool frogs and butterflies? Are you going to let Bill update the page while he is there? Whatever your upstairs neighbors are doing at 4:00AM - may be TMI for you!!! Glad every thing is still going great!! Maybe you should decorate that bag you are dragging around could be a great accessory. Theresa did we misspeak when we said that Bev was our oldest sister? Teresa and Kirk,

I was so glad to hear that Teresa has had her transplant and is doing so well. I've thought of you often over the past few months, and can relate to being sick of hospitals. There for awhile I felt like they should just install a permanent valve in my femoral artery so they could do an angiogram monthly. It's funny that it never really hit me that my heart disease was serious until a check-up with my cardiologist about four months ago when he told me that "We have done everything we can do for you. Any further treatment would require major surgery." Not even having bypass surgery (albeit the minimally invasive kind) affected me the way that one statement did. It was kind of a "Wow, I could die from this" kind of moment. Not something most people have to consider in their early forties!

I hope from this point on everything will be smooth sailing for you and your only reminder will be a faint scar and a pile of pills every morning at the breakfast table. (I sometimes wonder if I would even pass Pelco's drug test anymore. Oh yes, I forgot -- for those of us in Sales it's a drug tolerance test!)

Just got back to my computer this evening and checked on the latest. Mark's kept me up-to-date but it's so great reading the last few entries!! Teresa, I can't tell you how happy I am for you, Kirk the girls and your entire family. You've been on our minds so much. Now when you'll be invading my thoughts, I can think about how well you're recovering. By the way, Coco and Ziggy (the girls' horses) are in the process of being broken. I wish you could see the look on Megan's face when she rides her own slightly crazy horse. Priceless. Can't wait to hear about how well you're doing next...
Be good!

Theresa and Kirk, Just wanted you to know that your daughters are "Shopping Mama's"! They know exactly what they want and where to find it. Good Job!! Women after my own heart. Earl and Lorriane called about noon today to check on you. Mom had called them last Wed. and has been keeping them updated. Needless to say they are like the rest of us, and are so grateful. The other Texans said to tell you they are so excited, and Cody wants to know when all of you are coming to Texas again. He likes to have visitors, especially his cousins. The girls are fine. Tommorrow is cleaning day, they kind of looked at me like "Oh great". I will talk to you later, and we love you lots. Love, Bev

Okay Guys, I think that something is wrong with your page. The history starts back at July 20 and Kirk- you didn't change the date on today's entry. It's a good thing that Mary and I are tough or we might get a complex because all of our updates are not in history.
Theresa- when you get better we will go shopping for a purse that will put to shame any "old bag" that you are carrying around now.
Love you!

Theresa & Kirk, I missed being with all my favorite sisters last week but knew being with Mom & Dad would allow you not to worry about them. Mom & Dad kept saying it's a miracle and amazing and what a gift one family could give another. Also, they kept saying what a guy that Kirk is, that Theresa really did pick a good one with him.
Happy to hear each day you lose a tube a bag or whatever.
Take care and know that many of my friends and co-worker here are praying for you and the donor family.
Love ya, your other favorite sister, Trish!

Theresa I just talked to Kirk and he said that the clangiogram went well and you get to lose another bag. Yeah!! It is hard to work today because all my friends here want to party with me today. You are still getting lots of thoughts and prayers from the 13 floor DOTM QWEST.
Take care, I will try to talk to you tomorrow!

Theresa, glad you got rid of more tubes. If you thought the hospital food was good we would have to think there was something even more serious wrong with you! Are you racing anyone around the nurses station yet?
Kirk, for a beginner, you did OK on the site!
Thinking about you all the time and still praying for a very speedy and 110% recovery!!!!

We just returned from our vacation and heard the good news! Such a miracle. I had just read an article on vacation about the extreme shortage of organs, and then to hear your news! We're anxious to hear the details -- in time! So, in church today, we realize that the prayer can be changed to gratefulness for the generosity of others, the great medical team, and the wonderful spirit of your family! We are so happy for you all!!! You will continue to be in our prayers -- take real care and do it all just like you are supposed to!

What a woman! What a husband! What sisters! What family! What doctors! What a liver! What a donor! What children (those awesome girls, in fact!) Good Lord, ITS JUST ALL GOOD!! We are so happy for you all. I don't know, I think it's the Lance connection myself. LIVESTRONG! We expect you to be in the transplant Olympics next year, that's going on in the Twin Cities right now. Oh the joy of living yet another day, thank you for keeping us ever aware of the gift of life and love. Thinking of you all. If, in time, you need a visit, don't hesitate to let me know. I'm down to Rochester in a flash.

Hi TABW!
We were elated to hear about your transplant! The girls were doing thier very special version of the liver dance, and it was a festive and thankful celebration.

We are delighted to hear you are doing so well, and the girls are busy on your care package.

The SEAS RAGBRAI event went well, and I am catching up on some much needed sleep.

Look forward to talking to you soon,

Thanks to everyone for the great entries in the guestbook, it's nice to know so many people care. Maggie and I are up here for the day and then going home whith our aunt Bev(it's okay if you can't keep track of the aunt count, there are quite a few). Mom is doing great right now, taking lots of walks, you know her, she can't sit still for very long. Four of my aunts are here right now and they are keeping my mom on her toes. They're funny, they accuse each other of flirting whith men, statues, and anyone they find interesting. Thanks everyone for the support and messages, keep 'em coming!

Theresa -
I am one of Diana's many, many friends. She told me about your website and I peruse it fairly often as it speaks volumes about people - their willingness to endure and to excel. I too, am a Lance fanatic! His prognosis was not good to say the least and he comes back and wins not only 6 TDFs, but 6 in a row!!! He essentially dominated the TDF - this from a man who some did not believe in. I believe in the power of a loving and caring family, of wonderful friends (like Diana) and the power of the soul. I wish you all the best on your own personal Tour with it's Time Trials, it's mountain stages and it's own flat stages.

Hi Theresa,

Is it hot and humid in Iowa? It is certainly hot here. Of course, everyone says we are lucky as it's a "dry heat". At 105 degrees, hot is hot..dry or wet. (I know there will be much controversy over that statement)

We are praying for both you and Bev. I know that "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in troubled times" (PS 46:1) He will not fail to rescue those who love Him.

With much love to you and your family,

Hi Theresa
My name is Victoria Garcia. One of many of the other Pelco people you do not know. You have been on mind alot since I heard that you were in need of some help. I too have a bad liver not Cancer and not as serious as you at the moment but feel somewhat connected to you in a weird way.
Thersa just wanted you to know that you are not alone . I know everyone is there cheering you on but had another catostophic illness about 14 years ago so really understand how all the emotions that go along with it. I know you keep your head up for many people. Just don't forget that there are many people there for you to lean on also. I am very sure all will turn out as it should. My thoughts are with you daily. Will keep up thru this journal.

Hello Theresa! you don't know me, but I know Kirk from working here at Pelco.
Kirk has always taken time to give a quick hello when passing thur, and when I heard of this news I whated to help in some way. I known several people who have gone through this and have defeated cancer. All I can say is that the ones that have defeated cancer, all had to do with attitude & positive thinking and its seems from reading your journal that you have just that.
The Duran family will keep you and your family in our prayers, take care and God Bless you & family.

Dave and I think of you and your family often. I know it is a hard road. My brother had a malignant brain tumor about six years ago. He had surgery and then did the whole chemo and radiation thing. He then had another surgery and a second round of chemo last year. He is doing GREAT! It's amazing what prayer and modern day medicine can do! Of course he has lost some memory capabilities, but he had a bad memory before the surgery! hahahahah

Anyway...even though some people don't write in your guestbook, MANY of them, including us, are thinking of you and your family..

Dear Schatzle Family,
I have heard a lot about how wonderful the "Pelco Family" is for giving so much to help you out in your time of need. While I agree that Pelco is a wonderful place, I think the fact that so many people have contributed so much tells me more about what wonderful people you must be. Although I dont know you, it is obvious to me that you have touched many people's lives as well. It is not what you aquire in life, but how you live your life that matters most. Theresa, I wish you the best in your recovery.
